Non-Beer Discussion by BLUESANDBARBQ

I lost part of my blossoming Blues soul. Stevie Ray Vaughan dies in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin after show.[:(] RIP SRV. There will be several toasts to the Blues Gods tonight at my house...

Really enjoyed your tribute blog post, Lou. Good stuff. And the video link? That'd make a fan of anyone. http://bluesandbarbq.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-i-found-blues-or-did-blues-find-me.html

Man, I remember that like it was yesterday. I just started my Senior year is high school and only knew about SRV for a short time.

23 years now. I still miss SRV greatly. He started it all for me, my Blues Epiphany. There will be several pint toasts raised to him today. Good Bluesin' to y'all. I know what I'm listening to today... SRV @ University of Tennessee Alumni Gym, Feb. 14, 1987. My pic.

A talent indeed, even if not fully into Blues overall. And, Clash, yes, the taping off the radio days.... CLASSIC! Somewhat hillarious in hindsight now with mp3 rips pretty ubiquitous - and not intruded upon by commercials on either end of the file! Did I mention other differences in quality? The times they are a changin'! Oh, no, that's Dylan, back to SRV....

Robert Cray was the first to open the blues door for me, but SRV was the one who opened my eyes and my heart to the music. For me, he is the high watermark for blues passion, and if he were alive he'd probably say bullshit, for me...he is and always will be the man.

I'm SO glad I got to see SRV live, just in time. June 24, 1990, Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati. I always thought they had it backwards, should have been Joe Cocker opening for SRV!

I think I still have the cassette tape where I recorded this news breaking on the radio, yeah back in the days I recorded songs off the radio.
Clash, I would urge you to archive that kind of stuff in a more durable medium while you can; cassettes don't last forever! Some of the things I've lost on deteriorated cassettes: Waite Hoyt's final play-by-play Reds radio broadcast, LBJ's speech declining to run for a 2nd term, Nixon's resignation speech, among others!

I didn't "toast" to him, but I did invest this week and am exploring some of his non-mainstream work. I really don't know his stuff well.
