Who's Your Team and Why?

Non-Beer Discussion by OIZNOP

With the NFL Season once again at our throats (a little Archie Bunker there), I ask you, fellow beer pals (and palettes), who is your team and why? Pittsburgh Steelers here!...Die Hard...All the way baby!...Till death do us part....Win or Lose (I still drink the booze, er um beer!...and after finishing 6 & 10, and now a rookie QB starting, I'd better stalk up!)..... oh and if there are any other Stiller Fans out there who are ex-Pittsburghers in other parts of the world, where do you go to watch the games?....(I have to throw this in, there are so many ex-Pittsburghers (Steeler Nation) living elsewhere due to the lousy economic climate here, I just had to ask!)..... Having lived all of my life in central and western NY I am a Bills fan (also Sabers, Bisons etc.). I also like the area college teams and cheer for the school district where I teach (Go Trojans!) and where I grew up (Go Braves!). I am an SU fan (sorry Upstate Dave) but also have a few colleges out of the area that I have always like such as Penn State, USC and Notre Dame (it's that Irish heritage!). Ever since I was little I've stuck by the Bills through the good times, the Super Bowl losses and the ugly seasons-and there have been quite a few of those. I always wear my Bills items proudly. I get really annoyed with the folks that jump ship or are "closet fans"-the ones who are fans but never trot out the team logo items until the team is doing well.

Being born and raised in the Bronx for most of my life, I am a big Yankee fan,all it took was one trip to the stadium, that was it, that was 92. with the WS title run of the late 90s i found it strange to see the number of bandwagon front runners start rooting for them, and many more yankee haters. i guess that came with the rise in bandwagon Bosox fans. I tend to agree with Southerncoronas you root for your home teams , never really understood the pick and choose fans. that said i hate the mets, jets and nets.its Giants, knicks and Yankees for me. hockey just dont do it for me.

i, too, am a huge packers fan. when i was 5 i told my dad the browns (i am from northeast ohio) had ugly colors and I didn't wanna root for them. he told me to pick a team with Better colors, so I picked the packers. :) I have been loyal of them ever since. Hoping to catch em this year in hotlanta :)

NewYork Islanders. Die hard to the end. I became a fan in '78 when the Leafs beat them in OT to put them out of the playoffs. Then the 4-in-a-row Cup run was heaven. I was true Blue through the tough late 80's and the great playoff runs in '92 and '93. Then the dark ages.......... My heroes were Billy Smith, Bossy, Trottier, Potvin, Goring....all of 'em! It's a bitch being loyal these days. #2 is the Steelers. The glory days of Swann, Bradshaw, Greene, Harris....ah. the good times. Again, loyalty sucks. I'm not a bandwagon jumper.

I grew up in Wisconsin, so I'm a Packers fan. But 5 years ago the Kansas City Chiefs hired me to do some in-game production work, so I'm definitely a Chiefs fan first and foremost. And I cannot believe Derrick Johnson dropped to number 15. What a great offseason for the Chiefs defense. This message was edited by Dansting at 4/24/2005 10:27:32 AM.

In Reply To #22 You must have enjoyed watching the Isles beat the Flyers with that Nystrom offsides goal in '80. Dogs. Their team was pretty phenomenal, though. I really liked Bossy and Potvin. Loyalty? As a Philly fan I can relate to the pain of loyalty, that's for sure. How many years has it been? (2005-1983)x4 sports teams = 88 sports seasons of losers.

In Reply To #25 It's for real, just as soccer football is more popular than basketball in Europe.

In Reply To #28 Hey Wriko, I seem to recall that back in 1992, the Lithuanian Basketball team dawned tie died uniforms compliments of the Greatful Dead at the Olympics...Remember that???....With that being said, and you mentioning it, I do recall Basketball being king in Lithuania the way it is in the states of North Carolina and Indiana.....Like a religion! In Reply To #29 Yeah, you're absolutely right - like a religion. And this comparison is very often used. Yes that Greatful Dead uniforms were great. And our team of course too.
