Beyond Beer......

General Beer Discussion by OIZNOP

...what do you drink??.....That's alcoholic of course! When I am not sipping suds, I enjoy the following: Anything made with rum!...I am as much a rum junkie as I am a beer nut....I like the usual rums like Bacardi and Captian, but I also like Mount Gay Eclpise from Barbados, and Cruzen from St. Thomas....Rum with Coke, or pineapple juice hits the spot...Daquaries are always welcome as well as any tropical cockail that has rum in it!.....I have been acquiring a taste for Mojito as well (rum with lime, fresh mint and club soda)...Mojito is a Cuban drink that is very very tasty! In the winter time, I like a nice hazelnut liquer like Frangelico from Italy....Frangelico, like some of our favorite beers, is made by monks at an abbey somewhere in Italia!....Bouna Fortuna!... I haven't had it in a while, but I also like Kaluha...and anything else like it, with that chocolate feel....Baileys Irish Cream, stuff like that...I can't remember the last time I had a White Russian!...The same goes or Peppermint or Peach Schnapps...Man I miss that stuff!...I always liked those specialty cordials.... Wines are always a refreshing beverage, but I am not an expert like I am with beer or rum....I like a nice Pinot Grigio from Italy in the summertime.......Nice to have on a hot summer day (if we ever get any!...why does the weather continually suck here???).... I basically avoid the following: Whiskey of any kind Tequila Gin Vodka I am afraid as to what they might do to my liver!.... That's it!...How about you guys....What do you drink beyond beer??? Oiz

There was a day when I drank all manner of adult beverages, including but not limited to: Cuervo 1800 or anything with Bacardi on the label. Quite some time ago, I discovered the easy sippin' and complexities of beer and have forsaken most everything else since then. About the only exception is a high quality single malt scotch on rare occasion.

scotch on the rocks warms me up nicely in the winter. I do agree with kissmybass, it's gotta be a decent vodka for my vodka sour. Although Smirinoff isn't bad.

If I am not drinking beer I go for scotch & water. A good blended like famous Grouse is my preference. This happens more often in the winter. I also enjoy a variety of wines. I used to drink only NY wines but have branched out to try wines from everywhere. Reds, Whites, (Diamond and reislings) Last year I tried Port. On a really cold night it tastes really good. From March - November I drink mostly beer. Guess I'm a seasonal drinker

Oh yeah, I forgot, Rock & Rye is another one of my favorites!....Some of the older members of my family who have since passed used to drink Rock & Rye, so every year at New Years, I have my own personal Rock & Rye toast to them!.....Nice and sweet, and very tastey.... Oiz

There are only three buzz factors I drink besides beer.Gold Tequila, either sipping double shots from the freezer. I keep all hard liquor in the freezer. Or mixed 1 part to 2 parts Mountain Dew with lottsa ice. Great summer drink. Yukon Jack 100 proof whiskey on the rocks. Southern Comfort, tho I stay away from it now that it comes in a squeeze sports bottle. What the hell were they thinkin?! Makes it go down to easy.

In Reply To #7 The pine-needle smell of gin affected me that way for many years, after I got drunk on and then barfed up... Now I can do some gin if I want to, which is rarely. I've learned that hard liquor is less user-friendly than beer and I'm cautious.
