A dark, ruby coloured stout almost black from a distance, with a beautiful, creamy head. Brewed with roasted malts, it has an exceptionally smooth palate and fruity aroma with a short but distinctive finish reminiscent of toast.

I tried the Oatmeal Stout at Nicholson's in downtown Cincinnati, OH. Deep brown color; delicate malty nose; sweet, but not too heavy; soft oat character evident, along with mild roastiness, restrained hops.

Pours black in color with a tan head and leaves full lace immediately and all the way down the glass. The aroma is sweet notes of fermented oats, brown sugar, hint of smoke and chocolate. The taste is sweet milk chocolate and oats, with creamed coffee mid-palate, gets a little more bitter burnt charcoal of a flavour at the finish, but a sweet beer overall. The mouthfeel is not cloying from the sweetness, creamy and smooth, medium to full bodied even.

i'm grading this half way between what i'd give the bottle (better) and the can (worse). the flavor is nice, but like a Guiness, when it's on nitro, it's too unassuming. kinda boring, but smooth. the flavor comes out a little more in the bottle. the double chocolate, on the other hand, is better in the can...and better period.

This stout pours a deep dark brown with a tan head with decent retention but little lacing. Aroma is a little hops with chocolate and oatmeal, coffee and molasses. Very smooth and creamy texture. Flavor with some coffee and molasses, scant chocolate and a little hop. Overall this bre is outstanding.

This stout pours with a dark ruby brown. There tannish head on pur but has poor hang time. Aroma indicates coffee and molasses. The flavor is distinctly stout but with a nice smoothness.

Deep dark and gorgious pout. Slight like brown head with nice lacing. Bitter sweet and hoppy with just a hint of chocolate and the aroma of oatmeal. I am learning to love the darker side, especially Young's.

A very dark blacked colored ale that is very easy to drink. The brown colored head did not last long but the roasted chocolate malt smell was very apparent. A very unique medium bodied sweet beer and I noticed both chocolate and licorice flavors on the palate. A delicious beer that I would seek out again when beer shopping.

This was a nice tasty beer. It was a dark beer that poured a nice thick foam and that foam remained down until the last of the glass. All in all it was a good beer.

The beer pours a deep, not quite black, brown color that shows a brilliantly clear rich chocolate color when held up to the light. The aroma has a nice chocolate note to it, which moves to a nice, light roast coffee type note. A touch of sweet malt character yields a subtle note of burnt figs & raisins.

A creamy, lightly sweet malt notes yields quickly to a prickly carbonation and a bitter burnt grain note. The beer is a touch colder than I would like, but a bit of time will fix that. Light and quaffable on the palate, yet still rich and full of flavor. Sharp with a roast malt derived bitterness and even some hop bitterness. The combined bitter notes create ample balance to the evident malt sweetness. There is a touch of in the finish of this beer that is also a result of the roast character. As the beer warms up a bit more the chocolate note even become a bit more noticeable. Quit tasty, though it definitely benefits from being served on the warm side of things.
