Williamsburg Stock Ale, an American-style brown ale brewed in the traditional ale style, was first brwed in Sir Walter Raleigh's colony of Virginia, and subsequently brewed by many of our nation's founding fathers, including George Washington and Patrick Henry. This long established ale style was drunk in the taverns of Williamsburg during the time of this great nation's birth. Our Stock Ale has a rich, malty, caramel flavor with a fairly low bitterness level, a hint of Northern Brewery hops, and a full mouth-feel. 1.050 OG, 20 IBU, 14 SRM.

I've had decent luck with the Williamsburg beers off the tap -- but apparently whoever they contract to brew and bottle their beers doesn't do them proper justice. Yet another bottled Williamsburg beer that I can't say a lot of positive things about, to be honest.
This beer's major down-fall happens right off the bat -- fleeting head, and disappointingly fleeting carbonation. I ended up with a glassful of lifeless brown beer altogether too early in the game.
On the other hand, the aroma wasn't too bad. Not too bad at all, really. Very "English", with slight fruitish undertones.
But it's only from the flavor profile-on that this beer's destiny presents itself, for better and (mostly) worse. That is to say, the hops and the malt seem to be entirely out-of-sync with each other -- producing a rather unappealing, slightly syrupy, slightly astrigent mouthfeel. If this was a bit more carbonated, at least the mouthfeel may have been masked a bit more. But as-is, this is striped-down and a bit rugged, IMO.
With an appealing nose, but fleeting carbonation, discordant flavor, and unappealing mouthfeel, it should come to no one's surprise that I think the overall drinkability to be pretty damn lacking, overall. Next....

To look on the bright side of things, I'm 4 beers into my mixed sixer of Williamsburg. Only 2 more to go until I can move on to something else. The Stock Ale wasn't bad, but was a pretty mediocre beer...a tad on the bitter side. I'll say this, it poured beautifully with a really nice head that lasted the entire glass. The flavor was very average, though.

Mohagony color, little head. Fruity with sweet caramel overtons. Buttery, medium mouthfeel. Bubbly carbonation. It's too bad I got a whole six-pack of this mediocre beer.
