The Freak is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8.4% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of all the big West Coast hops give this beer it’s citrusy weedy nose and big dank hop flavor. Drinking this beer is like stuffing your face into a bag of fresh hops while eating a tangerine. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch or over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In following with the classic style of the West Coast double sugar plays a big part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter we welcome you to the Freak Show.

500ml bottle, bottled on 1/11/17. Pours clear straw gold with a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet malts with lots of fruity resiny piney hops.
The flavor is some sweet bready malt with lots of fruity, resiny, spicy hops and some alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a very nice well balanced DIPA. -

This poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma contains a ton of lemon and pine. The flavor is very bitter with a huge bitch smack of lemon and more pine. Not much malt going on here but sometimes malt is not welcomed. This is no beginner IPA, hopheads only please!

Pours a lovely golden amber - white head was thin, but that must be from how the bartender prepared it. Aroma is SERIOUSLY hoppy - almost assaults the sinuses with resin and evergreen. Subtle notes of malt and fruit sneak through. Flavor is - WHOA NELLIE, this is hoppier than a bullfrog on angel dust! Malty and fruity side notes manage to make an appearance. Firm texture has s lively fizz that you feel all the way down.

From growler, straight from the most buzzed-about new brewery in Asheville. Light golden honey colored pour, average white head, nice lacing throughout, decent carbonation. Huge tropical and fruity hopped aroma: pineapples, grapefruits, peaches, sweet oranges, mangoes - great initial nose. Then more hops!, some honey-like sweetness, and dankness. Big flavor too, big bitter, big linger. Pineapple, grapefruits, sweet oranges and peaches meet bitterness, in a very very good way, offset nicely by ample malts and a light honey-like flavor, HUGE. Thanks to Jason for bring me some back from Asheville Winter Warmer '13. Awesome beer from what promises to be a great upstart brewery.
