This is literally a double bock. A strong, dark and malty beer with very little bitterness. It emerged from Munich in the late 18th century when the monks brewed it as a Lenten beer to be consumed during their fasts. This liquid bread has a rich flavour that is dark and delicious, toffeish with some sweetness. This beer's light and fruity notes pair well with an earthy camenbert or a nutty cheddar. Its good carbonation cuts well across a pungent blue or a creamy goats cheese. It accompanies savoury bacon, aged ham, venison and roast pork very well indeed. Also smoked fish, salumi & chorizo will go well with this exciting beer. Available in the 750 mls bottle as an alternative to good quality wine, designed to be shared while enjoying a good meal.

    Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

750 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original White Gypsy stemmed tulip glass a clear and ruby-brown coloured Doppelbock with a one finger beige foamy head that had a very short retention and many micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is deep sweety-caramel and toasted malts, toffees, riped dark fruits, raisins, plums, figs. The flavour is solid sweety and toasted malts, caramel, toffees, a syrupy soap of riped fruits, grainy pears, raisins, plums and dried fruits, nuts. The mouthfeel is crispy, sparkling, quite thick and sweety. The texture is oily. This medium bodied Doppelbock has a dry malty and fruity finish. The aftertaste is light warming. A powerful Doppelbock, not from Bavaria but from the unexpected Ireland. Anyway the try worth ! A nice discover.
