Das India Pale Ale (IPA) hat seinen Ursprung in der englischen Kolonialzeit. Um die Truppen und die Zivilbevölkerung in Indien mit Bier zu versorgen wurde dieses über den Seeweg verschifft. Damit das Bier die lange Reise, die ohne Kühlung, schwankenden Temperaturen und teils heftigem Wellengang erfolgte, überstehen konnte wurde das Gebräu mit einer hohen Stammwürze und damit hohem Alkoholgehalt eingebraut. Auch die erhöhte Hopfengabe trug einiges zur Erhöhung der mikrobiologischen Stabilität bei, da Hopfen nicht nur äusserst gesund, sondern auch stark antibakteriell ist. Das IPA ist ein helles obergäriges Bier, das neben einer angenehmen Vollmundigkeit ein feines Grapefruitaroma durch die Verwendung von amerikanischem Cascade Hopfen aufweist. Es passt hervorragend zu Meeresfrüchten und süssen Nachspeisen.

500 ml flip-top bottle bought at the brewery. Poured in the original Weyermann shaker pint glass an unfiltered hazy copper-brown colored I.P.A. with a two fingers slight beige creamy foamy head that had a long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Active carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is aromatic and grassy hops, aciditic fruits, grapefruit, flowers,notes of caramel. The flavour is solid grainy malts, yeast, grass and rich aromatic hops. The mouthfeel is great, you seem to chew the grainy malts coated with hoppy flowers. This full bodied I.P.A. has a lingering hoppy bitter finish. A magnificent tasting I.P.A. !
