Exceptionally smooth and thoroughly robust, Weyerbacher Scotch Ale has a deep delicious flavor that will warm you down to your wee little bones. Malty and roasty on the palate, and with distinctive caramel notes, this beer will satisfy the desires of any malty beer aficionado. Weyerbacher Scotch Ale is our interpretation of a beer style originating from Scotland, where the chilly damp weather calls for a hearty beer. Lacking the preservative powers of hops, scotch ales were brewed with high alcohol content to prevent spoilage. And at 8.7% ABV (alcohol by volume) Weyerbacher Scotch Ale definitely contains a warming belt. We brew Weyerbacher Scotch Ale mostly in the cooler months of the year. Check out the Upcoming Events and Beers page for the next time it will be at a beer store near you.

Cellared almost a year, and aged well, compared to others I had when they were younger. Poured deep mahogany with a ruby tint, creating a one-finger off-white head that faded to a disc of foam on the surface, but left ample lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, yeast, and bread. Any peatyness escaped my notice. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated and nicely coats the tongue. Flavor is balanced with roasted malt and caramel notes, and a sweet finish. Didn't even notice the 8.7% ABV, so I'd have to say it's well hidden. I've had mixed results with Weyerbacher, from disappointing to exhilarating. I'd rate this as one to recommend.

Not as good as say a St. Andrew's or a Skull Splitter, but definitely a better interpretation than an Erie Railbender. Big foam leaving solid lace on top of a dark reddish brown liquid catches the eye. Bold, yet smooth flaky roasted malt flavor with just a hint of a smokey burnt quality caresses the palate. Nice pleasant finish. Weyerbacher continues to impress this microbrew fan. I think I will have another, Laddy!

Bottle: Poured a deep clear copper color ale with a small off-white foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma of slightly roasted sweet malt with some very subtle peat. Taste is a mix between sweet malt, subtle peat (too subtle for the style IMO) and a watery finish. Body is definitely a bit thin for the style but alcohol was well hidden. Good but well short of being great for the style.

Deep brown and clear, this beer has a rich malty aroma full of figs and brown sugar. The flavor is equally malty, but leaves a sourness on the tongue in the aftertaste. Really hides its strength.

Poured a brownish copper color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of peat smoked malts, some caramel malts, and a nice nuttiness. Taset of caramel malts, nuts, smoke, and roast with the 8.7% ABV well covered.

Comes out of the bottle with an amber to caramel color with an unfortunately weak head. Pleasant floral/sweet nose. All qualities similar to those of (supply your favorite Scotch ale) with the exception of somewhat weaker body in this brew’s case. A darn good beer. Even though I prefer other makes of this style, I still like Weyerbacher’s version.

Pretty good. Dark and malty with a slight roasty flavor. Nothing spectacular, but decent and priced well.

I have never tried a scotch ale before but I did not like this beer at all.
