A big bold beer to say the least. A black IPA that does not compromise on malts or hops. So much so that it demanded to be a double. Roast, Chocolate, Pine, Citrus - it all plays together in a rock-opera for your taste-buds. Black IPA's are somewhat of a hit or miss for me. A IPA that happens to be dark in colour doesn't interest me, and getting the deep malt profile and hops to play together is not always obvious. The secret seems to be finding the right Malt/Hop chemistry, and we think we found it in this one.

Poured a dark brown colour with cola highlights, a beige creamy head and nice lacing. Dark fruits aromas (plums, raisins) with mild roasted malts, hints of chocolate and coffee. Roasted malt flavours with lots of grassy hops, creating some nice bitterness and dryness in the finish. Some sweetness in the middle and coffee lingers. A hoppier IIPA that is quite rich with lots going on.

10oz at Arrow and Loon. Pours an average size frothy beige head and has a dark amber/brownish appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of roasted malts and some smokey notes. Flavours are light roasted malts, herbal and grassy hops. Alcohol becomes much more noticeable towards the finish. Slick mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Good retention.
