Ahh the good old Wachusett Nut Brown Ale. Now here's a little background on my history with this one. Back in the 90's when the Wachusett Brewing Company started brewing the Nut Brown Ale, I tried it on several occasions and absolutely I hate it. I'm not sure why...might have been the recipe, might have been my taste buds. I have no clue why. I decided to give it another try on my last trip to my hometown of Westminster, MA. Boy oh boy was I shocked.

The beer pours out into the pint glass with a light tan head and a clear, dark brown body to it. Upon pouring out the beer, the head quickly dissolves away to leave a skimpy, feint head perched on top of the beer. It is enough though to leave behind some light lacing on the glass. The aroma is something special though. After letting the beer warm up and breathe for a good 5-10 minutes, you get this wonderfully sweet roasted malt aroma coming out of the glass. Mixed in the middle are the subtle hints of caramel. It smells absolutely wonderful.

Once you get into drinking the beer, the first thing that really blows my mind is how smooth and drinkable it is. Phishpond's assessment is right on in that it has a creamy finish. I couldn't have said it better myself. Roasted malts to the max in this one with a hearty nutty taste to it, balanced well by a sweet caramel flavor that really hits home.

Bottom line, I'm not sure what I was thinking before when I wouldn't drink this stuff. It is absolutely awesome and probably one of the top brews that Wachusett has to offer. Try it out.

On the sweeter side, lots of nuts and a caramel with an aroma of roasted malty goodness. Creamy finish, and the head is a little small vanilla colour.

Big Fan, but Brown Ale's are my favourite type of beer. Pours a deep amber/brown with small head and little lace. Sweet taste, which seems to be prevelant in Brown Ales. I could see myslef getting this again and I strongly recommend this to any brown ale lover.
