Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words,

This beer was a deep honey color. Poured up with a fast fading frothy head. After settling for a moment the beer was cloudy. The nose was sweet with heavy hop notes. Big surprise, the taste was severely hoppy and sweet. The hops in this brew are so thick that you almost have to chew it. Finishes crisp with ligering hop flavor. Calling all Hop Heads!!! Calling all Hop Heads!!!

12oz bottle picked up at Whip in during RBWG 2012. Pours clear golden with a big white head. Citrus and pine resin, dusty caramel. Smooth and bitter pine.

Courtesy of Gillard. It pours a clear gold with white head. The aroma is mild with a sense of hops and faint malt sweetness. I also get a whiff of alcohol. The flavor starts both sweet and hoppy with even amounts of grapefruit hop flavor and bitterness with an under current of malt sweetness. The hop bitterness builds well into the after taste.

On tap at the Bocktown, such a great place. The pour is just like ubiquitous pale yellow american beer. The aroma is an olfactory impact of friendly flowery smells, lovely. You know from these floral hints this is going to pack a hop wallop. Why do these hoppy brews smell so good then taste so offensive? The smell makes me think of bait in a trap. I’m almost afraid to taste this. Can’t I just sit around all day and just smell it? Why must I ruin such a great olfactory experience? Wow, flavor is as expected, why not just mow over my girlie man taste buds with one little sip? Quite hoppy, bitter, rude and obtuse. Barely any carbonation and it lacks any tingle. You cannot taste anything else in this brew except bitter hops. Grapefruit rind galore. An acrid bitterness that just does not fade. Is there alcohol in there? Who knows, there is too much grapefuit rind for me to tell. It makes me forget I am even drinking a beer. Are not hops to be a preservative in a beer? Then why use them? Go figure. We don’t ship beers for months on end around the world on unrefridgerated sail boats anymore. The finish of this brew is lasting back of the throat, uvula crying for relief, bitterness, keeps going & going & going like the energizer bunny. Gimmie a glass of Weyerbacher Old Heathen to wash this down with. I guess I’ll never get used to the hoppy bitterness that so many other rateberians love. But I must continue to taste untested territory. I hope someday I’ll finally appreciate this style. Thanks for reading my rant.

Large white head, good hang time, great freakin lace. Pretty, clear, gold/light amber color. Sweet, spicey hop nose, floral, piney with some inkiness also. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Lots-o-hops with a real laid back malt backup, but the malt is there in the end. Finish is dry and fruity with a good hop(wallop?) bite to cap it off. Freakin nice! I think a month or two of aging and it,ll be even better.

Just a dash of hops...An IPA fan could drink this everyday and be reasonably satisfied. It's not the most explosive one out there, but a great all around drinker and lives up to the name.

Had side by side with the hop devil. From a flavor standpoint this is more dynamic. The devil has good balance but is a little too mild. This is not a huge hop bomb, but its not hard to find and its a good jolt of hops if nothing else.

I preferred the HopDevil to the Hop Wallop. There wasn't as much balance or complexity in the Wallop. Ity wasn't even much of a hop bomb either. I'll take the HopDevil any day of the week over this one.

A very hoppy bite, reminiscent of a Stone IPA. Strong aroma leads to strong mouthfeel. There is a BEER here, folks. Wonderful bitter flavor that makes you want to hold it before swallowing. If it is a little bitter for you, try the Victory Hop Devil which has most of the attributes of the Wallop, but a more temperate flavor. Neither is a home run, but both are easy triples.

It pours a hazy golden with fairly thick white head and copious lace. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, grapefruit, pine, some bread and yeast, and mildly spicy. The mouthfeel is smooth and well-bodied. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, citrus and grapefruit, honey, bread/yeast, and spiciness. Very enjoyable and the alcohol is not over-powering.
