Roggenbier is a medieval ale usually made from a grain bill of about half barley malt and rye malts. Being ancient brews, Roggenbiers have a faint whiff of earthiness in the nose. The up-front sensation is one of mild fruitiness tangled with a slight bready note in the middle, and an almost smoky, spicy, and very dry finish -- clearly the effects of the rye malt. The Effervescence is spritzy like a Hefeweizen and has a pleasant, rich, off-white head when poured. Please enjoy this refreshing late summer offering from your brewers at Upstream and Drink Up!
