Cosmic Sleigh Ride contains seven different malts mostly European, Czech Saaz hops, and eight different herbs that are added at different stages of the boil. When tasting this deep mahogany beer, the herbal influence is quite evident, the malt is rich and strong with a quality of caramel and toast that is very soft on the palate. The fruity esters contain notes of raisin, plum, dried cherry, and fig. Spicy phenols are present and have a peppery quality to them. Due to the complexity of the malt, herbs, Upstream's proprietary Belgian yeast, and high alcohol content, this strong smooth beer is more like a fine cordial that you sip and enjoy slowly. Cosmic Sleigh Ride is an interesting experience with some pleasant and unexpected surprises--just like the holiday season.
