There's a long tradition in Belgian brewing of using exotic spices to enhance a beer's flavor. Although many have been tried, coriander is undoubtedly the king. In tribute to this heritage we present to you our Siamese Twin Ale. It is a traditional Belgian-style Double seasoned with coriander and entirely uncommon Thai spices. At first surprising, the floral notes of lemongrass and sharper bite of kaffir lime blend with the deep malt of this double to produce a dangerously drinkable beer. Served alongside a fiery curry or enjoyed on its own, the Twin brings a taste of the tropics to every occasion. And who doesn't need a taste of the tropics every now and then?

16oz bottle -
Aroma - dusty, malty, some raisins and coriander present, touch of spices.
Appearance - copper body, 1-finger white head, average retention, no lacing
Mouthfeel - medium bodied, light-medium carbonation
Flavor - light raisin, some lime and coriander, yeast and light roasted malts.
Overall - an interesting beer with some interesting ingredients. Easy to enjoy at this price so it gets a point for that. Another good beer from Uncommon. -

Pours a thick foamy brownish head that gives way to a thin coating. Has a dark amber appearance. Somewhat weak lacing. Aromas of raisins, dark roasted malts, coriander and yeasty notes. Flavours of coriander, light lime hints, roasted malts, spices, earthy and resin hops. Also some notes of raisins again, nuts and a light caramel touch. A little sweetness in the finish. Slick and chalky mouthfeel with a mild warming sensation. Not too bad and pretty good for an organic beer.

4-pack of cans, attached with a green handle and holders at the LCBO. Pours a clean copper colour with a frothy beige head, decent retention and a little lace. Sweet malt aromas with some brown sugars, mild dark fruits. The taste is very offensive to me though, with some grass and fish punchiness which completely kills it (don't get me wrong, I love Vietnamese food with fish sauce and lemongrass, but this is horrible). Thankfully, this putrid flavour does not linger too much and decent sweetness with hints of apples fades away slowly. Nice to have something uncommon and organic, but when something is too "off", it is not a good thing. Too bad I have 3 more cans.

Can- pours a deep copper clear ale with beautiful ruby highlights - a hard pour gives you a 2 finger rocky cap that reduces to a surface lace. aroma is really interesting/unique sweet toasty malt tones with some dark dried fruit but then some bright citrus undertones and Belgian yeast funk. Flavour approximates a dubbel but is a bit dryer - big toasty lightly sweet malt in front light hopping but some fruit and citrus and some soft spiciness - finish goes a bit drier with a string roast after taste. Interesting and smooth for a big ale, quite warming but drinkable.

Clody /hazy cooper to brown with a slight head. Citrus aroma with a bit of spiciness that translates to flavor. Nice malt back. Would pair well with a spicy Asian dish.

this would be a very nice thai food beer. one of the more interesting beers of the night. fruity, estery aroma with a hint of earthy grassiness at the end. a touch of lemon in the aroma and flavor which would be a mistake in some beers, but IMO works well here. good body and a hearty malty, yeasty backbone. nice beer.

Sampled on draft, City Beer, SF, 11/08. Pours cloudy copper with a small head. Citrus and dark fruit dominates the aroma. Raisins, caramel and subtle yeast (phenol spices) in the flavor. FG unusually high for a Belgian style beer, and therefore, not worth seeking out, but still a fine, interesting beer.

Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/5/2008. This Abbey dubbel pours an orange gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, orange, sweet with a touch of spice. A medium bodied dubbel. The malts are fruity and sweet, hint of orange. The hops are earthy. Nice spicing, the lime and lemongrass balance the malt sweetness nicely. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
