"Brown ale you say?! I don't drink brown ales, they are sooo last christmas!!" What about crisp biscuity malts, nutty toastiness and a roastly chocolate finish? "Hmm, cloyingly sweet I'm sure!". With enough bitterness from hops and roasted malts to balance and add some spice and fruit. "And mouthfeel...?". Think creaminess from a huge oat addition, like a rich toastly hazelnut crumble!! "Naah, I still want an IPA."

330 ml bottle, as Ugly Duck Crumblé US Brown Ale, from BilkaToGo, Skalborg. ABV is 5.9%. Deep brown to mahogany colour, moderate to small off-white to beige head. Aroma of medium roast malts, burnt caramel, burnt breadcrumbs and hazelnut syrup. The flavour is better than expected, has the same elements as the aroma, also distinct bittering hops, not too sweet, all well balanced.
