The Headless Man is brewed in the "old way" of a Düsseldorf-style Altbier. A unique cold lagering process gives this amber ale its smooth taste. Background: The ancient peoples that inhabited Wisconsin are known for building numerous celestial stone monuments and earthen effigy mounds to serve as symbols of their culture and their beliefs. Unfortunately, most of these structures have fallen victim to the farmer's plow over the past 150 years. Not far from the brewery, lying preserved on the floor of Rock Lake, are two effigy mounds - a Headless Man and a Turtle. Legend tells us, as the Turtle can survive on both land and in water, its spirit helped guide the Headless Man into the afterlife. May the Turtle's spirit guide you to happiness with a Headless Man Amber Alt.

The aroma is dry malt with bread crust and hints of caramel late. It pours clear and oily, with a copper hue and a white, medium dense ring that leaves a light, runny lace. The taste is a medium bitter and light sweet. The beer is dry and thin with a buzzy foam carbonation. The medium body contains roasted notes with light caramel and wood notes and a resin flavor that strengthens at the finish. The aftertaste is burnt with some citrus rind and/or wax notes that linger.

A nice beer on tap at the brewery, crystal clear amber color, really hooked on the look. Aroma is mild, somewhat hoppy, malty etc. Fizzy, light mouth, light flavor, mostly malt, some bock, a really easy drinking beer.

Bottled@Monks Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Amber colour with not much head. Aroma is fruits, some caramel malts, mild grass and some slight saltwatery notes. Flavour is the same in a nice way. Even though it's balanced and has the elements it's kind of thin.

Thanks to BeerHunter for this one. Pours a clear brownish-red with a medium white head. It has a light malty aroma with some kind of spice coming through, maybe cinnamon. The taste was more mild than I expected. Bland malty flavor with a slight bitterness. Not my favorite but I would like to try some more from this brewery.

Thanks to pfoxyjohn for this alt. Pours a coppery medium amber with a thin head and some lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of sweet slightly toasted malts with some toffee and then very slight hops. Taste is smooth, almost creamy with a lightly toasted malt and slight hops finish.

This altbier pours a slightly murky medium amber color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel and toffee and slightly sweet, but with a touch of smokiness. A medium bodied alt. The malts are caramel and toffee. The hops are floral and earthy. There is a smokiness and grassiness to this beer. The malts seem a little bit burnt. Good balance. Lively carbonation. Nice session ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and slightly dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

This poured a copper color with a very weak head. It had a somewhat dry taste with a bitter aroma as well as a bitter aftertaste. Not too bad, something worth trying.

Sampled from bottle: pours a light brown colour, medium bodied with a small creamy off white head. Some noticeable wood or oak in the taste. Aromas of biscuits, cranberries and spice. Taste is relatively light and creamy. Re-rate 4/20/2009- ihteresting. I've had this plenty a time but decided to revisit it 3 days before the last time i reviewed it. Poured a clear amber colour, illuminiscent in the sunshine. Not even close to the brown! Rich, still malty with a noticeable biscuity character still.

A clear, dark copper pour with a thick creamy, tan, lasting head. Little, if any, nose. An unexpectedly mild flavor; smooth but non-assertive and a little thin and bland and somewhat flat. Also, no finish except for a faint woody/cardboardy flavor.
