Malt: Crystal, Pilsner, Munich Hops: Comet, Simcoe Yeast: House Ale Each spring, hop growers dust off their pruning shears and trim the first shoots, bolstering the bines for a rich growing season. First Cut – a mouthful of silky Simcoe and a touch of mango – is a nod to this ritual, without which the world would be a less hoppy place.

Seasonal offering from Troegs. Honking big nose on this...pineapple, tangerine, cotton candy and a hint of pine in the nose. Pours a slightly hazy pale orange/amber body with moderate white head and minimal lace. Mouth is medium to light bodied, carbonation well done, slightly slick. Flavor follows the nose, not terribly bitter but the 45 IBU's do make their presence known. A sweeter IPA that would make a good IPA intro to swill drinkers. Tangerine not eh first hit followed by a wee bit of pineapple with a sweet endnote but a pretty try and ever so slightly bitter aftertaste. Giving it an 8 here even though the taste is really not strictly IPA-ish. Well balanced, interesting, very drinkable but the serious IPA drinker will find it somehow a bit hollow. One last thing, they hid the 6.2 ABV real well.
