Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

One 5oz sample of a 6 beer sampler at 3 son’s in Wexford, nice place. Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Supposedly by the DR owner. Smell is a little fruity but not volatile like most BWs. Looks somewhat like tea with a frothy head. No visible carbonation. Though you can tell this is a high alky brew, it does hide the 11% rather well. A little more polished than most BW’s. Some constant fruit in the background. This stuff is what it is; an on style barleywine. Perhaps a little more enjoyable than others. Seems to be a little more refined than most American barley and wheat wines I’ve had. Comes across like the grey area between euro and American BW styles. Leaves a mild alky warming sensation on the finish. DR barleyWS5L3F1T306

It poured a dark amber color with little head. The aroma contains some alcohol, cherries, oak, and citrus., The flavor contains some caramel, citrus, alcohol, and cherries. The finish is sweet and boozy. At less than $5 for the pint, it earns kudis for that as well.

Comes out of the tap an opaque light reddish chocolate-brown with a fine-bubbled, pale yellowish tan head. Strong, malty, fruity-sweet aroma is rather inviting. Flavor is strongly fruity and, like a proper barleywine, has a fierce alcohol bite. Texture is lively, edgy and tingly.

Courtesy of gford217: Poured a medium color ale with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of sweet barley malt is pleasant. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt with light dry fruits notes. Great carbonation with an average full body and no apparent alcohol. Hops presence is quite low but I didn’t mind since I prefer English style barleywine usually. Not the most complex offering but still very enjoyable.

Aroma is very malty and very sweet with some chewy bitterness coming through. Appearance is a very rich, tawny reddish-amber in color when held to the light with a full head on top that is light-tan in color and remains and leaves lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with extreme complexity and balance with a palate that is very chewy and thick and tasty. Flavor is malty sweet with some dark prunes and port coming through with an aftertaste that is a bit warm with bitterness and has a finish that is robust and very strong but with not much alcohol noticeable but does offer dry grapefruit and bitterness. Overall, very nice big ale here for sure and some age would make it even better for sure...

This barley wine pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, sweet and fruity. A medium bodied barley wine. The malts are fruity and caramel, very sweet. The hops are floral. Very sweet barley, but still mostly balanced. Hides the 11% alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet with a touch of alcohol bite.

    Gusher. Very hard to pour.
Pours a reddish hued brown with a rather large beige head.
The aroma comes off as caramel, toffee, and cherry cough drops.
The flavor is sweet like cheap liquour. Stale Cherry Pucker. Light bitter finish.
Greasey mouth feel. Way too much carbonation.
Possibly infected. Certainly not a good bottle.

This is a very malty barleywine, but still has a hoppy nose. Tons of nuts in the aroma and the hops have a distinctly minty quality. The body is sweet and sticky. Pours a clear reddish brown with a large, long-lasting head.

Pours with an amber body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing left behind. It’s slightly sweet with notes of rotten fruit and band-aid phenol notes. Don’t know if this was just a bad bottle or if it’s just a bad beer. Will definitely have to try it again.

NorCal tasting Jan 07 - The 5th and final Duck Rabbit beer, and I was sort of sad to see this come. Not only did it mean I had no more Duck Rabbit beer but it meant the tasting was about over. An aroma sweet caramel, fruity, and floral. Flavor profile had burnt sugar, dark fruits, some piney hops with a sticky mouthfeel that was slightly unpleasant.
