This poured out a pure black color with no head. The aroma is that of a pot of coffee brewing. The mouthfeel is pretty good just a bit above average. The taste is not very balanced it sort of like it was brewed to cover up the 9.4 abv. It's okay but not really something I would want to have several of. Probably would be perfect for as how its labeled. A little of the dog that bit you in the morning.

Wow, this is an explosion of flavors. You can pick up all the flavors listed, though coffee seemed to outshine the others by a hair which is just how I like it. A big thanks to Lou for this massive beer, absolutely wonderful for breakfast or whenever.

Love the very dark color and reddish foam of the Wake-n-Bake. And, who wouldn't love the name? Coffee, oatmeal and chocolate make my favorite beer combination. I would naturally love this brew. It's happy and cold as I sip and savor, while it's warm going down! A true beer art form for me! Thank you Terrapin!

Medium to full bodied impy, heavily roasted with a balancing amount of sweetness. Rich coffee and chocolate. The coffee influence is one of the best I've had, very comparable to Founders Breakfast.

Beer 5 of my 12 Beers of Christmas. This one is from slowrunner via a recent trade along with some of the Costa Rican coffee that came with it. Jet black pour with little head but a tan ring, lazy lacing, and nearly dead flat. Huge wet black coffee grounds aroma, rich dark and bittersweet chocolate, molasses, toasted malts. Taste is more dark chocolate than the aroma would indicate with still a huge black coffee presence, roasted malts, some sweet molasses and brown sugar. Nice big beer that has been on my wish list for a long time. Big thanks to Chris for this Georgia beer via Reno! Tasty beer for my 5th of 12 Beers of Christmas 2010. Big Yes!

This is the first beer to make me say: "Oh, my God..!". For starters, I just love the Terrapin packaging; very clever if you ask me. OK, so it's cute too! There, I said it! So what? Does that make me less of a man? Not when that cute little turtle is serving up beer that is constantly a hit with me. As soon as the beer leaves the bottle, you almost immediately smell fresh roasted coffee. You'll also notice the beer has the consistency of syrup; to me this only promises a good tasting beer. The aroma is nothing short of fresh brewed coffee, chocolate chips and hints of caramel. The taste is even better, with the chocolate and caramel emphasized this go around. Smooth finish, with barely any trace of alcohol. The mouthfeel is a bit dry, but that won't stop you at all from taking another sip/drink/chug. Also, leaves hardly any lacing on the glass, which is surprising considering the body of the beer. This beer hands down, knocks my favorite beer out of it's #1 rank down to #2, leaving Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout to take the prize as First. God Bless you, you cute little turtle, you... God Bless You! Oh, and I almost forgot: The 4 pack I bought is out of it's FRESHNESS DATE! -That's saying a lot now, isn't it?

Coffee and Beer - I thought this was the perfect combo and it started that way the pour was a dark almost black with the tan head. The smell was faintly of coffee but as soon as you tasted it the coffee hit like a mack truck but as I finished the sip it had an extremely bitter ending that did not sit well. Coffee start, missing the whole malty flavor of a stout and a bitter ending. Nice try but not gonna be my pick.

I love coffee, and I love stouts....but this is a stout I wanted to love but just couldn't. It's still a solid beer, just something about the balance didn't quite work for me. At first I thought the coffee was a little overwhelming and very bitter, but then after few sips I was enjoying it more. At the finish the hops kicked in with the background of malts which was better IMO than the however many shots of espresso they mixed in. Dark black thick oil appearance. Aroma is coffee and hops with whatever malts you can smell over the coffee. It was worth the try I guess, but for the price there are other stouts or coffee stouts/porters that I will resample.....................................................UPDATED 3/15/13: This has been distributed here more over the years, so have revisited multiple times. Upgraded a point in flavor and overall. It really is one of the better, lighter IMPYS out there now.

I am partial to this genre. And I’ve had some good ones. This one will, as I finish this rating rank among the best I’ve tried so far. It starts with the color. A rich darkness and a light frothy tan head rises atop. There’s some hang time in this moderately big head. Settles into a a soapy ringlet and light clouds atop the body. The bittering coffee and sweetness of roasted malt dominate in a balanced dance in both the aroma and the taste. The body is rich, oily and smooth. I could drink this one all day.
