Pours clear chestnut with a thick but effervescent pale buff head. Orange dominates the aroma but gladly shares the olfactory stage with woody hops and a little malt. Woody hops take the lead in the flavor, while orange and subtle malt notes play their part and a bit of grapefruit pops up. Mouthfeel presents good body, if not a lot of fizz. OK, where did I put that crossbow?

I picked this up from a beer dealer in Roanoke, VA. This beer was good but had the unfortunate task of following up Parkway Brewing Company's Orange Get Bent Mountain IPA - it was far superior. The Terrapin beer was too malty and a tad sticky. The flavor wasn't as fruity either. Good, just had a tough act to follow.

This was decent, though I thought it may be a little better. Medium to heavy on the orange, which takes some away some from the IPA feel. Tart and bitter citrus up front, but actually somewhat sweet on the back end....sort of opposite from most standard IPAs. Not sure if the red-dark orange appearance is from dye, but could explain the extra sweetness. Ok to try, but wouldn't really go out of my way for this.

Bottle. Dark copper pour with a short tan head. Spicy and citrusy hops dominate with toasted malt, caramel and hops resins behind. Taste is spicy hops, citrus fruit, hop resins, caramel, toasted malt and sweet malt notes. Body is medium-full with a strong, dense, bubbly carbonation and a moderate lingering hop bitterness. Ends with more toasted malt, caramel notes, dark bread, citrus fruit, floral hops and spicy hops.
