This double fermented belgian style ale derives its name from its secondary fermentation. The 1st fermentation uses generous amounts of imported english malts. (Marris Otter Pale Malt, Mutons Dark Crystal, Wheat, Munich, and Chocolate Malt.) The collective Malt profile contributes to a dark amber color, an obviously full body, and a smooth malty aroma. A subtle hope character comes from using just enough Czech Saaz and German Hallertau to bring the beer into balance. The distinctive sweet flavor and fruity aroma are developed thru both primary and secondary fermentation using a traditional belgian abbey yeast strain. After primary fermentation (about 2 weeks) we add a solution of Rock Candi to the fermentation vessel. This additional sugar instigates a secondary fermentation. This increase the alcohol content to 8.6% and further produces more of the fruity aroma derived from the yeast. This ale is not filtered and is moderately carbonated. Best served between 42 and 48 degrees.

Poured with a small but nice looking head. Appearance was murky brown in color. A mouthful of flavors from this beer almost to the point it was difficult to single out one from the other. The flavor was somewhat on the sweet side. Overall a very nice beer.

This Abby Double poured a medium brown color from a growler. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, caramel and toffee. A full to medium bodied double. Malts are fruity, caramel and sweet. Touch of brown sugar and molasses. Hops are earthy and slightly floral. Smoothly sweet and fruity, extremely drinkable. Nice session beer, one could sip this one all evening. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Thanks to whomever brought this to Noogfest II. This pours murky brown with a small head. Very muted spicy/herbal flavors going on. This is a nice brew.

A dark amber appearance with a spicy caramel like aroma. A lot of nutmeg, cherries, chocolate and spices showing in the flavor. Not a bad dubble. And I cant think of a clever boobs joke right now either.

Pours a hazy brown with a small head. The aroma has a mild spiciness and dark, dried fruits common in dubbels, but in small measure. Good brown sugar quality in the flavor. Tasty, but a bit reserved for the style. Would be a great entry beer to Belgian styles, however.

"Noogfest 06". I was glad to see this brew and I hope I can do it justice in this review givin the fact my palate was taking on a diverse range of brew this weekend. The aroma was sweet with maybe some spices and had some light fruity overtones to it with maybe some brown sugar or rock candy. The appearance was a nice and rich burgundy red in color with nice carbonation and had a full and frothy head on top that was off-white in color. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and full of complexity with moderate balance and was typical to the style. The flavor was sweet and yeasty with maybe some spice as well as brown sugar with no alcohol noticeable and was fruity and malty. Overall, not so much a dubbel but this was quite a brew and I hope to see it on draft somewhere close by soon. On a final, I will be doing a re-rate on this one.
