Our new spring seasonal beer, Karnival Kolsch is arriving just in time for our Fasching Karneval . We are very excited about the release of this beer. For the first time in Stoudt’s history, we are releasing a brand new beer that has already received a medal at the Great American Beer Festival. This refreshing German-style ale was brewed using 2-row malt, a small amount of red wheat malt, and all German hops for bittering and aroma. This straw colored ale is smooth like a lager due to the colder fermentation temperature and extended cellaring time. It is dry and crisp with a slight fruitiness which compliments the mild hop bitterness and aroma. This light ale is a fresh complement to most foods, but in particular fish, chicken, and salads. Karneval Kolsch will be available at your local distributor soon.

A weak offering by Stoudts. I know the style is supposed to be thin and bland, but I've had some Kolsch's that had at least a little bit of flavor. Refreshing, and what little grassy, mild-malted flavor is there...is balanced decently... with a crisp feel. Noticing these brewers are starting to go lighter and lighter for summer brews, but at some point I may as well drink water.

Strong aroma is malty and yeasty with a hint of caramel. It pours a clear, wan yellow with a fluffy and not persistent white head. OK, what can I say - I prefer darker beers. Fortunately, appearance is this beer's weakest point, as the malty flavor has firm yeasty and fruity notes, not complex but refreshing. Texture has good body and a fair amount of fizz. Overall, nothing to Tweet about but still OK.

A bright yellow colored beer. There's a big creamy textured, white head rising above. There's a decent hang time on this one. It settles eventually into a thick ringlet and cap atop the body and lighter splotches of film aside the glass. The nose is far too light. The tasting picks up well, with the simplicity of light malt and stronger grass hops. Medium bodied and smooth. I liked this one.

Yellow pour, no head and no lacing. The aroma was lagerlike, nondescript. The flavor was sweet german malts with a slight fruitiness that seemed a bit too much. Despite it’s description, it wasn’t really light. Fairly highly carbonated in the mouth. A really bitter finish of saaz-like hops gave this some character and helped to make the sweetness tolerable. I have to say, this could have been the best US version of a kolsch I’ve tried this summer, if it were a little dryer and lighter in the mouth.

A very refreshing beer. A transparent golden pour with a huge frothy white head. Aroma is grass and cereal with a weak hoppy hint in the background. Flavour was thin with lots of malt. Not one I would seek out again.
