UPDATE: POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG SPOT....HAD THE REGULAR FAT DOG STOUGT. Wow, what can I say! Don't know if I have tried a better oatmeal stout yet. Has an off-black, thick appearance. Medium-heavy carbonation to bring out a frothy mocha-white head. Taste of oats, chocolate malts, hops, and all sorts of other goodies. Can't wait to buy more.

Another very solid showing from Stoudt's. After consuming the regular Fat Dog awhile back, I was excited to have the chance at cracking the BA version of the same beer. The aroma was a little more subdued than the regular verion, but what I got was a big attack of malt, whiskey, vanilla, some wood and a bit of caramel but it was really toned down. Appearance was dark as night with everything clocking in as expected. Mouthfeel was thick and chewy. Flavor was sublimely malty, dark chocolate, espresso, with a bit of wood. I found very little whiskey character in this beer, and that was fine. Overall a nice find if you can lay your hands on it.

Pours black with a massive sticky thick dark tan foam head. Great retention, and great lacing, this is how an imperial stout should look. Aroma is nutty and earthy, almonds, sweet chocolate, grass, bourbon hints, burnt wood, vanilla, and caramel. Flavor starts sweet and caramelly, with lots of bourbon, some milk chocolate and molasses as well, turns very roasty, some black coffee, charcoal, almonds, vanilla, an abrupt drying out towards the end, with some grassiness and burnt dark chocolate. Finishes with a long dry roasted bitterness. Very complex beer, I wouldn't have guessed this is the Fat Dog recipe.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, oak, chocolate, roasted malts, with toffee, some lactose, and very faint bourbon. The bourbon, however was kept even further in the background in the taste. Roasty, chocolatey, oak, with vanilla bean, nougat, and light alcohol. Velvetty mouthfeel.
