A TROPICAL IPA THAT TRANSPORTS YOU TO A HOP-INDUCED STATE Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon- into-evening. Your official duties for the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes…and crack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and…pfffft…check. WELCOME TO OUR VACATION TRANSPORTATION EXPRESS! This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice” crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.

Rated Feb. 2017. 22oz bomber pours with a clear deep gold body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up tangy tangerine and tangelo as well as a modest level of earthy hop spiciness. The taste delivers plenty of juicy and bitter tangerine fruity hoppiness. Oh yeah. This gets it done. It picks up thin layers of pink grapefruit and earthy spicy hop bitterness to midway adding additional facets to the experience. Solid IPA which attains pleasing depth as well as refreshing crushability.

July 2017: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy deep yellow to orange colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of tangerine, hints of spruce. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, with fruity notes of tangerine, but also solid piney hops. Bitter finish. Good beer.

Pours clear orange-golden with a very thick and persistent porcelain head. Goes hazy after a few minutes. Aroma features a strong note of citrus - tangerine? - supported by resiny hops and crisp malt. Flavor presents tangerine, resiny and slightly bitter hops, and fresh malt for a very drinkable ale. Not spectacular, but very enjoyable. Fairly firm body offers peppy tingle and a tasty tangerine finish. Catch this express!

Pours a clear golden yellow with a big foamy white head. Retention could be better. Leaves spots of slick lacing. As expected, tangerine is the main feature in the aroma and flavour. There's also pine, grapfruit, pineapple(which you don't have to be told about) pepper. Citrus and hop bitternes with a slight malt sweetness. Again a good ipa from Stone but far from the best. The price is right. Give it an extra point for that.
