Bottled@Monks Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is some banana, fruits, mild spices as well as some slight sourness. Flavour is sour bananajuice with some slight rpicyness. Strange brew, but rather original as well.

A very interesting beer indeed. Soft, sweet and a very tropical mouthfeel. Pours a orange body with a full fluffy white head. A wonderful aroma, tropical fruits and citrus on the nose.

This a very interesting beer of a style rarely seen in this country. Throughout Africa, Asia and South America, the banana (or plantain) is used in fermentation and, as this version from Milwaukee's Sprecher Brewery shows, it doesn't make for a bad beer. Brewmaster Craig Burge developed this beer from extensive research into African brewing styles, ingredients, and traditions. In particular, this Mbege is similar to beers popular in Northern Tanzania. It is unfiltered, resulting in a hazy golden body, with just a few initial bubbles that disappear immediately, leaving no head. The nose is fruity, but just as much berry/apple/lemon as banana. The tatse is mild spice and reserved natural-tasting banana. Medium bodied with a smooth, lightly sweet finish. An easy-drinking and refreshing brew, and I can imagine it goes great with chicken peanut stew, alicha or dorowot.
