http://www.slumbrew.com/The_Beers/Beer/FlagRaiser%20IPA Flagraiser IPA is a big, hoppy tribute to the unfurling of the Grand Union flag atop Prospect Hill in Somerville, MA on January 1, 1776. This ale celebrates our passion for hop aroma and flavor balanced with just the right amount of malt. Huge aroma and resin-y flavors from the elusive Galaxy hops are the signature of this beer. Built on a solid base of pale malts, this double IPA makes generous use of hops from Columbus, Crystal and Galaxy with the Galaxy hops taking the lead during ten days of aggressive dry-hopping.

Mild in the nose with some bread and a bit of floral hop notes. Pours a semi-opaque (unfiltered or chill haze?) orangy-copper body topped with an excellent thick and frothy head that has very good retention and lovely lacing. Mouth is on the light side of medium and slightly slippery. Hits sweet with malt predominating the first taste and ends quite bitter and dry with bitterness lingering. Tastes like a very bitter pale ale. Alcohol is part of the mid-taste and is warming. Hint of grapefruit rind in the finish. This one becomes a little more rounded after it has sat in the glass for 10 minutes. Simple..but its nice to return to an IPA that just wants to be a good IPA.
