Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bravaria, Kosmos' mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full flavored, hop jacked lager is evry bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.

pours a mid-yellow body with a very carbonated head faded quickly. Aroma of grain. Flavor was of grain.the aftertaste had a slight presence of floral hops.

Purchased in Vermont, part of their tester mixed-pack. Pours a clean rich golden colour, with a little amber in it. Frothy warm cap with good retention and some thick foamy lace. Typical macro lager smell with sweet malt, alcohol, fake hops and corn. Even more corn in the taste with some mild adjuncts. Fake hops. Not the worst lager out there. Nice label, brew looks good, but nothing more than this.

Clear copper yellow with quickly dissapearing foam head. Aroma is mainly barley, some hop. Taste is bittersweet. Aftertaste is dry in mouth, somewhat bitter. (Houston 201301)

A dark golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons, hay, and caramel but nothing very strong coming through. The flavor is rather light with a slight malty presence. Its "clean" tasting with a bit of citrus and caramel. The palate is a bit thin but what do you expect. Overall this is what the big macro should be, but on the same note its not amazing.

Too much generic grainy aroma and cereal taste to it, without a whole lot else going on. Solidly in the not bad for a lager category, but not really good either. Got in a mix pack, won't get again...

Pours a copper color. Smell is malty, some caramel. Taste is malts, caramel, a bit of hops, flavorfull for the style. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

pours a golden yellow with a small quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is week but consists of malts and caramel. The taste is watery and grainy, and is to sweet, but has a bitter aftertaste. This is the worst of beers from Spoetzl that I've had.

For a company which claims to have roots in old time German brewing tradition, this beer misses the mark big time. Too much graininess in the aroma and flavour for it to be truly 'reserve' and not enough hoppiness to be a true German style.

Fills a glass golden orange in color, with a moderate head. Aroma is that of sweet floral hops, with a grainy undertone. The mouthfeel is a bit of what I'd call sizzle-smooth. There is a slight metallic flavor that I can pick up. Overall I'd say it's about average, maybe less cause it's called a reserve, and reserves are reserved for a purpose: cause they're goood. BUT, maybe it just hasn't reserved for long enough.
