Let me start by saying that I dont drink just cheap beers. As far as flavor I like Newcastle Flat Tire 2 Below etc... When I want to get a buzz fast or am low on money I think V.S.L. is the only choice. It has a nice dark color, it tastes better than all the other high gravity varieties out there. 211 in my opinion tastes like metal (seriously). This beer only comes in 24 oz cans. I like the color of the can as well (pointless attribute I know). While it is rated at 8.5% is seems to be a milder buzz than 211. I drink the can verry cold, when it gets warm it tastes pretty bad. So if you are looking for a cheap buzz and dont want to drink metal (Steele Reserve) flavored beer give this a try. If you are after a beer to kick back and slowly enjoy, this is NOT the beer for you.

Clear yellow, small lacing white foam ring. Malty aroma, kind of sweet. Alcohol tasting sweetness, small malt tone. This beer is all about the alcohol. (Memphis 201505)

Aroma is actually better than I expected - nothing to write home about, as the old cliche goes, but rather nice. It is strong, fruity - mainly apple - and malty, better than what I expected from a beer of this type. It pours a rather uninspiring clear wan yellow with a rather typical white head. Flavor is not too shabby, though - stronger and fuller than I expected, malty and fruity with a bit of a nip. It’s actually a little enjoyable! Texture is smooth and just a bit fizzy, no big shakes, but better than most industrial swill I have had. OK if there isn’t much else to drink.

I'm not even sure why I gave this a 5 overall when most of the indy scores were significantly lower. I guess I have a soft spot for Schlitz products. This isn't the worst HG/Malt/High Octane fuel but it's not the best either. The overall is just kind of bland. 8.5% is kind of a redeemer but I doubt I'll be making this one of my usual cheap beers. To be honest, Steel makes a much better tasting HG and is of a similar cost. Drink this Very Smooth Lager while it's cold and it'll be ok.

smells of cheap corn, old cornflakes, and corn pressed fresh ethanol ... shared a can with Scoob Dub, he drank nearly all of it... . straight hay colour .. . awful aroma, like chinese dumpster and sweet puree corn vomit- on a good day .. . gross. . .

Sometimes as they say you must grab the bull by the horns. Well it is time to take on this bull like a fearless matador. The golden bull shines off the can as if to dare me to take him on. Bring it on Mr Bull. Stick me up on a post like a scarecrow to view the fields of corn. Ah the liquid corn fills the glass. This is a harsh customer. The gas station attendent fills my mouth with diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline. You pump me and leave me when you get your fill yeah. The sour lemons mix in with this corn filled mess to wreak havoc on my taste buds. Like that awkward first date that you accidently farted on, this beer is a little embarrasing. The can is oh so inviting but once you arrive at the party the host deficates on your head and calls you a NINNY! Oh the horrors of this brew could not be described even by such masters of the genre like Stephen King or Edgar Allen Poe. I must finish this before the warmth settles in. EGADS!

VSL Stands for "Very Smooth Lager" and although that's a bit of a stretch, for an inexpensive 8.5% ABV, this isn't really that bad. Pours ok with a nice golden color. Head is not excessive but still not long lasting. Fairly high adjunct flavor, but not as noticable when cold. I collect cans and bought it mostly for the can, but the stuff is certainly drinkable too.
