I used to live in the St. Louis area and this beer and Schlafly pilsner were two of my favorite beers to put in a bucket of ice and enjoy with a summer barbeque. This may be the perfect cookout beer. Its perfect blend of malt sweetness with just a hint of bitterness cuts through barbeque brilliantly, especially with a nice spicy chipolte barbeque sauce. I would recomend this beer to anyone wanting to relax with a tasty brew on a warm summers day.

I thought this beer was very good. I had the stout as well. I was very dissappointed with the stout but the lager was very tasty. It had a dark complextion which I liked. If I'm ever in St. Louis again I will definetly get this beer again.

Bottled July 20, 2004. Fizzy Yellow Beer Color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, touch of grain. A medium bodied pale lager. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are spicy and slightly bitter. Nicely balanced. It’s most definitely a pale lager, but it differs from most of the other swill in that it has some flavor and bite to it and the corn adjunct is not really annoying. Lawnmower beer, but pleasant. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Good pils. Gold with perfect clarity , tall, lasting head. Both the aroma and flavor are gentle and pleasant, with light hops balanced by clean grains. Easy drinking with stimulating carbonation. No aftertaste.

Sampled from bottle. Pours a pale, yellow-gold with a sudsy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is mild and unoffensive. The flavor is grainy and corn is definitely in the grist. Just on the bitter side of balanced. Light-bodied, moderately carbonated and refreshing. When I drink this classic American pils, I keep thinking that perhaps Schlafly was sending a message to their cross-town rival: here's how you make an American pilsner. Great for the style, but just not my style.

First of 6 from a lunch-time sampler at the Tap Room. Color of olive oil, and notable for the abundant lacing. Balanced and understated profile based on Pale and Caramel malts, and Mt Hood and Liberty hops. Can definitely taste the corn in the grain bill, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on whether you like PBR.

Schlafly's 1904 American Lager is a nice interpretation of an Americanized Pilsner. For a change, the corn makes a positive addition to the beer, somehow. There's a nice husky flavor that comes across in the lighter body. Because it is a 'lighter' brew the slight complexities of this beer come across. Lawnmower beer done right.
