The Brown Ale style originated in the pubs of England, where beer drinkers desired a beer that was both flavorful and complex, but at the same time mild enough to be a session beer. The Santa Fe Brewing Company's interpretation of this style uses a combination of high mash temperature, soft water, and low-alpha acid hops to produce a product that is both true to the style and distinctly Santa Fe. Brewing jargon aside, Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is an easy-drinking beer, mildly hopped, and always a favorite. Try a keg at your next party!

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

Pours a slightly hazy dark redish brown with a sandy head and spotty lacing. Astringent slightly sour leathery aroma. Flavor tastes burnt and sour. Lightly roasted woody thin and sour. I hope this is not how it is supposd to be. A por showing for a style that I generally am forgiving of. Very soft carbonation and a smooth albiet thin palate

Light caramel and nuts in both the aroma and flavor, but both aspects are fairly weak, with the added benefit of a watery thin feel. Not offensive, but not real good either.

It pours a dark brownish-orange with a thick light-tan head and some surrounding lacing. A light aroma of caramel malts, hops, oranges and citrus, some nuts, and light spiciness. The mouthfeel is thin and watery. Flavors of caramel malts, nuts, hops, some raisins, and spiciness. It's okay .. flavor is good ..

Got this in the mail for my beer of the month club. Pretty boring but straightforward brown. Pours a clear but dark brown colour, not much head. Taste is medium bodied, nutty with faint hop taste.

A beer of the month club submission for September-October 2011. A nice every day brew, moderate body, with pronounced nut like flavor and nice sweetness. If this was available in my area I would purchase from time to time.

Smells good. Fresh and nutty. Pours an attractive brown ale. Just a little thin, but that's OK. Mouthfeel is thin. Taste??? Wow this is watery. WTF???? Now I understand the low ratings. This beer taste like water + a brown ale. Dammit!

Sampled on 9/19/2010. This brown ale pours a medium brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head with good retention. The aroma is caramel, fruity, nutty and sweet. A medium bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel, nutty and semi-sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice carbonation. Some nuttiness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

A nice enough coffee, and nutty aroma. A deep brown almost black body with a thin cap that left some good lace. Mouthfeel is slightly on the watery side, flavors of chocolate, and nuts were kinda faint. I did drink it colder than i normally would, but based on some of the reviews on here i am glad i did.

This one was on the shelf at Top's Liquor in Tempe, AZ when I stopped in to find some brew from around the Southwest region. Had I seen some of the reviews of this beer on this website, I would have purchased something different. This looks like the bottom of the barrel based on the reviews.

I poured the beer out and it had a head and it disappeared within seconds leaving absolutely nothing on top of the beer. The color of the beer was dark brown and when held up to the light had a clear, dark ruby coloring. The aroma is that of sterilizing fluid. Very medicinal. Not sure if that is supposed to be like that, but I'm not a fan. I don't smell anything in the way of malts in this beer like you'd expect from a nut brown.

The flavoring was sour and again, I picked up on no malts at all here. I'm not sure what I taste, but it's not favorable. This is very weird for a nut brown. There's a sharp tingle due to the carbonation at on your tongue.

Overall, this is a poor excuse for a nut brown and I'm not sure if I had a skunked bottle or what the hell was going on. Based on the reviews here, I'm thinking what I've experienced is pretty common with other beer drinkers. Stay away, far away from this one.
