Organic Devout Stout is a religious experience. This stout was developed by the vagabond brewer, Dan Satterthwaite, a mentor of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing. Satterthwaite brewed with Mad River, Trumer Brauerei and is a founding member of Seven Bridges Organic Homebrewing Cooperative. When he isn¹t traveling to the far reaches of the world, Satterthwaite can be found at the brewery with Chad Brill, Emily Thomas, and Nick Thomas of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing. Devout Stout has been certified organic by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers). From the first appearance of the Devout Stout there is no question about the style of this beer. It is a stout in all its depth, darkness and flavor. Imagine an aroma of the darkest Italian roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a hint of anise. Despite what people think, this stout is not made with coffee just organic barley, organic hops and water. Devout Stout has a thick, creamy head that settles lightly on an almost voluptuous body. The mouthfeel is rich and warming. The flavors of the Devout Stout, ebb and flow through sweet and bitter to create an intoxicating elixir that will leave you utterly devoted. Organic Devout Stout comes in 22 ounce bottles. The label features an Œirreverent nun¹ receiving a pint of stout from the heavens, and was specially designed by local artist, Janet Allinger. Her works include the Irreverent Nun series which inspired the title and label for the Devout Stout. To view more of her artwork check out her website, www.janetallinger.com.

This beer just might be the single worst stout I've ever had. If not, it's easily the worst I've had in a year or two. Words just don't do justice with this crap. The aroma of smelling someones vomit who just drank about 8 cups of coffee is about the best way to sum it up. The beer pours out a dark black color with a HUGE, HUGE head which would suggest this was infected possibly. Flavor is sour, stomach acid, some roasted malt notes and LOTS and LOTS of charcoal and ash. An absolute drainpour.
