12oz bottle
Appearance: Pours dark copper with a small white head the dissipates very quickly, no lacing
Aroma: Sweet malts, caramel, raisen
Taste: Sweet malts, raisins, some hop bitterness. The finish just leaves a sticky sweet taste in my mouth
Wow, what a mess this beer is. Way to sweet, my mouth and lips are sticky sweet with sweet malts and sugar. Glad I didn’t buy a 6-pack. I’m going to get a IPA next to get the sweetness out of my mouth.Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
Pours a striking clear amber with short lived tan head. The aroma is sweet sticky malts that blend into mild dark fruity esters and just noticeable caramel candy notes. The taste is fairly thick and smooth and modestly rich with notes of sweet crystal malts, sweet malts and an increasing level of rich sweet dark fruity esters notes like plum, prune, raisins and a bit of ripe cherries. Like the nose a sense of caramel carries on deep in the background. Very tasty brew.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in this beer. I'm usually a fan of heavily malted beers, but this one... something is wrong; the hops and the malt just don't mesh. The hopping seems like something that would work better with a less heavy brew. Also, it seems like the fermentation was pushed a bit farther than it needed to be. BTW, the label has been changed.

I had one of these at Thanksgiving - it wasn't bad. I had it with a dozen or so ice cold oysters. The beer was big and warming. That being said, it was a tad boozy for my liking. Overall a better than average beer.

Purchased on my trip to Vegas at the Total Wine store. Second of the Sam Adams Imperial Series tonight (Nov. 17). Pours a deep amber colour with a small beige head that does not stay long, but creates a bit of lacing. Medium scent of dark fruits (dates, plums) and caramel malts. Smooth oily mouthfeel. The taste is pretty close to its smell, with notes of bananas and nuts. Pretty well-brewed, just not my thing.

It pours a dark amber & burnt-orange with a thick white-orange head and fairly copious lace. An aroma of caramelized barley malts, faint hops, citrus, and light spices. The mouthfeel is pretty thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange, light raisin, bread and yeast, alcohol, and spices. It's flavorful .. good indeed..

As with the old Double Bock, I prefer to leave bottles sit in the cellar for about a year. A very nice soft transformation develops creating a rich, smooth, densely flavored bock. Dark fruits with a hint of molasses and fresh breads.

This brew was ok. It did pack a punch. The taste was malty with a strong alcohol floor. I was surprised that SA would allow such a flavor to fall past them. The crunch of the brew was out there.
