Style: Hybrid Ale: Cross between an English Brown Ale and German Smoked Lager, or “Rauchbier” Similar To: Newcastle Brown, Caledonian 80, Schlenkerla Rauchbier Tasting Notes: Nose: Light wood smoke, ribs, bacon, malt sweetness. Palate: This beer drinks quite a bit lighter than it looks. A light smoke taste will greet the palate, moving into distinct malt notes of biscuit, maybe a touch of raisin. Very light bodied, this beer finishes with a tart cloying taste that dries the palate. This is essentially unsweetened honey. It coats the mouth and the smokiness will build as you progress through the pint. Other Notes: Smoked Honey is not a heavy tasting beer. It is also not a "sweet" tasting beer, and it actually finishes rather dry. What makes this beer different from traditional honey beers is that the honey is completely fermented out, leaving little residual sweetness. The lightly smoked character comes from the beechwood smoke malt we use, which has a very delicate — rather than overly aggressive — smoky taste.

Oh boy! I feel infection right away from the sour nose. Pours a clean copper-amber colour with a light beige, creamy head, decent lasting with some good creamy lace. Yes, infection in the taste as well. Thankfully, it is milder and does not linger around. Aromas of mild roasted malts and hints of dark fruits. Hard to taste the honey as the sourness covers it, and the flavours are watered-down. Hints of smoke malts lingers a little. Would like to taste a fresh one, but still think it lacks some punch.

Pours an average size foamy beige head and has a murky brownish appearance. Some sediments are visible. Lacing is ok. Aromas of light roasted malt, spices, raisins. Flavours of dry fruit (raisins, plums) smokey, toasted malts. Some spices and resin hop notes. Average retention. Has a little bit of a watery mouthfeel. Not bad.

The beer pours a translucent dark brown aith a thin brown ring for a cap. The aroma is smoked ham, caramel, dark fruits, and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet malt, smoked meat, light honey notes, and dark fruit.
