Fränken Bierausflug, Day#2, Brewery#6, Beer#10. Poured vom Faß into a krug at the Roppelt Bierkeller, the experience not unlike being served a draught Spotted Cow at one of Wisconsin's ubiquitous supper clubs. With a thick, foamy pure white head, this hefetrüb kellerbier smelled of fresh earth and hay, with faint hops. Medium-bodied with full malt flavors and a firm, assertive bitterness. The finish starts bitter, then fades to smooth and slightly sweet. Good complement to my dinner of bratkartoffeln, pickled vegetable salat, and fried karpfenfilet - a specialty of this area of Franconia, vaguely reminiscent of a Wisconsin fish-fry (who knew that carp has a season, just like oysters, in months containing an 'r').
