Half-e-Weizen (formerly Mo Ale), was inspired by, and dedicated to, Mo and Dutch Niemi, real people inspiring a real product. Mo was a restaurateur and raconteur whose clam chowder is world-famous; Dutch a leader by example for coastal fisherman. Together their spirit indelibly shapes the daily lives of the Newport, OR waterfront. Half-e-Weizen is a refreshing, unfiltered fusion of wheat and Northwest Harrington malts, coriander, ginger, and Saaz hops in the Belgium style. Half-e-Weizen is available in the classic 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Measurements: 12 degrees Plato, IBU 30, Apparent Attenuation 79, Lovibond 3.20.

This isn’t really a hefe but who cares. Light gold brew with a decent foamy white cap and thin retention. The aroma is pretty cool here: ginger, grapefruit, sweet orange, nectarine, weak wheat, sort of lime, coriander, lemon, intriguing spice - a very nice, interesting aroma. More ginger in the flavour. There is lots of it but nothing too strong or disgusting. Wheat, spices..... I think I’m bored instantly. Creamy mouth feel. Ginger throughout is cool. Less smooth near the bottom of my glass and finishes forgetful. This was excellent cooler but it’s terrible when warmer.

A decent hefe, not as flavorful as some but still pretty good. Hazy yellow pour with a nice head. Smell of coriander and bananas. Flavor is fruity and smooth.

My bottled is labeled MoM-Hefewiezen. Aroma is citrus-like with some strong coriander spice as well as some slight orange peel with some light grainy notes as well as some faint yeastiness. Appearance is a very nice, golden-yellow in color which is very cloudy with a massive head on top that is bleach-white in color and fuzzy and diminishes slowly to a whispy lacing that adheres to the glass. Mouthfeel is light-bodied and creamy with some spicy complexity as well as balance with a palate that is sharp and crisp and very cleansing. Flavor is of coriander and is spicy with some citrus twang that is evident with an aftertaste that is dry-like with some grainy nuiance as well as crisp hay with a finish that is clean and airy and perfect for a very hot day. Overall, nice product here for sure and recommended before it gets a tad too cool outside when oktoberfests and pumpkin ales reign.

Rogue beers are almost always expensive and they are not much better if at all then any other craft beer. My recommendation is to try one (preferably your favorite style) and see if you like it more than your usual favorite. If you do, then this brewery could be for you..

This beer is horrible. Pours a very murky peach color with a head that evaporates right away. Aroma is of slight orange and ginger but more clean than anything else. Very soda or seltzer-like carbonation and sort of tastes like it too. There's some coriander and some weird spice which I guess is the ginger or maybe that's the saaz hops but more than anything else it is bland, carbonated like hell, and tastes like a orange juice that has been sitting on the counter for a couple weeks. Here's a case where I wish I didn't have to buy a 22 oz bomber to sample a beer. A small tasting would have been just fine.

Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear dark golden colour with a low creamy white foam. Aroma of hay, mandarin and biscuits. Medium-bodied bordering to light-bodied with notes of dried oranges, neutral yeast and minerals. Mild orangey finish of neutral yeast. Low bitterness.

Love german wheats, like american wheats, love traditional wits...wasn't too fond of this though. cloudy pale orange. Aroma is malt and ginger? Body is average, a little light good CO2. Tastes a little bitter, but not a good hop bitter, something that hits the back of the tongue and throat and isn't too pleasant. I think it's the ginger. Not wheat-y for a heffe, more of a pale malt base with a touch of wheat. Didn't get the coriander, i think i tasted the ginger, or something else (which was not good). The flavor combo didn't seem to meld well to me. This should NOT be confused with a "wit". If had several of Rogue's many ales and can honestly say they make quality great tasting brews, but this missed the mark for me. Definitely wouldn't even categorize this as a wheat as it misses ALL the wheat characteristics of a normal heffe- could be the lack of a wheat yeast strain. Sorry, Rogue, this was a bummer
