Dark Ale Brewed with Cocoa Nibs, Vanilla and Cinnamon Collaboration with Shmaltz Brewing Company This year’s beer is a similar dark ale to the one we brewed for Reunion ’11. It’s brewed with cocoa nibs from our friends at Olive and Sinclair in Nashville, vanilla, and this year cinnamon. The flavor begins with complex malt overtones and quickly gives way to the chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Inspired by rich mugs of Mexican hot chocolate this is going to be especially good with BBQ, Mole and Churro…maybe from your favorite local food truck?

22 oz bottle. Pours brown with ruby highlights and a medium pillowy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is roasted chocolate with some cinnamon and sweet floral vanilla.
The flavor is nutty roasted malts with lots of cinnamon and slight chocolate and a medium bitter finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty watery.
Overall, interesting but the flavors didn't really come together for me - a bit of an acidic mess. -

A deep brown colored beer with a thick light brown head rising briefly above. Settles into a thick ringlet. Light cinnamon and chocolate in the nose. Same in the tasting. Medium-full bodied. Very good dessert ale.

Pours a dark, somewhat clear sienna with a fairly thick wheaty-tan head. Strong aroma fills the nose with malty, cinnamon, caramel and nutty notes plus a hint of wood. Flavor has a strong cinnamon and woody overtone floating atop good malty, chocolate and nutty notes plus hints of hops, caramel and horehound. Absolutely lip-smacking! Firm texture has plenty of fizz, leaving a tasty finish that has cinnamon, chocolate, nutty and caramel tones. Pity this is a one-and-done.
