If Pumpkin Ale strikes you as a recent invention, we’re afraid that Post Road cannot take the credit. Early American colonialists, wisely seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Often blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Dozens of recipes survive from that period, and Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish. We expect that you will agree with our colonial forebears - when it comes to pumpkins, pie is fine, but ale is better. Availability: October through the holidays in 12-ounce bottles, 15.5 and 5.2 gal kegs.

I tried this beer on November 19, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent orange-red with a very thin very short-lived white head. The aroma is malty with pumpkin and spicy notes (cloves and nutmeg). The mouthfeel was medium bodied with above average carbonation. The flavour was primarily malty with some definite spiciness and a hop-laden finish. Better than the Great Lakes Pumpkin ale in my opinion.

Brown/Orange pour with a thick white head. Lots of carbonation. Fair amount of lace. Sweet smelling notes with hints of pumpkin and spice. Very nice pumpkin ale.

Pours a fair size foamy head and has a clear amber coppery appearance. Aromas of malts, mild pumpkin spice and resiny hops. Flavours have a pretty good mix of spices and sweetness, malts, pumpkin pie, rusty like hops. Somewhat of a wet mouthfeel. A bit of a tingly sensation on the palate. Fairly well balanced. Not bad but could've used a bit more spices overall. Pumpkin flavours is actually mild compared to others.

Not offensive in any way. Mild sweet pumpkin aroma with muted spices. Smooth clean taste with crisp medium-high carbonation. Pumpkin, cinnamon and vanilla are detectable, but just barely. Decent light pumpkin ale, but probably not one I'll buy again.

Pours out a dark orange color with a tan head. The aroma is mostly of hops. The mouthfeel is bitter. The flavor is not that great I'd have to say this is my least favorite of any of the pumpkin beers I have tried.

I was not impressed, this beer was disappointing because the other beers from Brooklyn I have tried have been good, the aroma was better than the taste.

An orange tinted amber colored beer. A small frothy textured white head rises and disappears just as quickly. The ringlet left is decent. Cloves and pumpkin dominates as I would expect. The tasting pretty much matches. A light, heavily carbonated beer. All in all a pretty good spiced ale.

This is a tough one, despite a thin finsih, I did enjoy the beer. Malty, bready, biscuity, dry, spicy, enjoyed warm on a cliff above a lake in the fall, as well as cold around a table of cards. In both scenarios the beer was enjoyable. Perhaps a nice fall/winter spice brew, however, as many others have suggested the pumpkin seems to lack, and to locate it seems quite contrived. Good beer, not much of a finish, no pumpkin, forgettable, but I will try next years effort again.

Been sittin' in the fridge for a bit. Clear orange. A nice aroma with nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon and breadiness. Taste is pleasent. Fresh flavours right away, but finishes a little on the watery side. Nothing too special about this beer. A little dissapointing as far as pumpkins go.

Dark bronzy/orange body with a tall rocky cap floating on top that’s slowly dissipating creating large bubble creators in the mean time. spicy Cream cheese that’s heavy on the clove, soft pumpkin and non aggressive malts fill the nose. Thin malt character and heavy spice taste it seems nice, I even get some mild citrusy hops in the flavour. Brew feels a touch thin and finishes empty and metallic. I guess it’s not bad tasting but I’m missing any of the pumpkin flavor. I wish the beer was thicker and more full, it was descent enough but easily forgettable.
