As we continue into the winter season, we’d like to introduce you to a Czech lager style we can’t stop drinking. Polotmavý Ležák 11° is a a Czech-Style Amber Lager that translates to “half-dark.” Both light and dark at the same time… the duality of beer… For our rendition of this traditional Czech style, we used Bohemian Pilsner Malt, Dark Bohemian Pilsner, Carabohemian, and a touch of Carafa to enhance this deep amber color and toast character we get in the glass. We bittered early in the boil with beautiful Czech grown Saaz, chilled things down post-fermentation and allowed this beer to lager 6 weeks before filtering to brightness.

Pint can pours with a clear deep amber to mahogany colored body that supports a thin light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a light amount of roasted malts, faint hit of caramel malts and then a sliver of spicy hoppiness with a backdrop of spicy yeastiness. The taste delivers a pleasing blend of modest roasted malts and spicy bitter Saaz hop yum. To midway it picks up a bit of sweet fruity esters and a murmur of sweet caramel like malts. This comes together wonderfully and manages full fluffy flavor.
