Grand Cru de Pelican is the result of inspiration, creativity, and imagination. With a nod to the great brewing traditions of Belgium, we have been inspired to create this dark, sensous brew. Grand Cru de Pelican entices with a rich, complex aroma, and satisfies with deep malty and caramel flavors. Spicy, aromatic flavors provide a harmonious counterpoint to the malty foundation of this robust beer. A snappy finish and medium-light body enhance the smooth drinkability of this beer.

I bought this bottle at the brewery several months ago. It was bottled in 2009 and had plenty of pressure when I released the cork. Poured dark brown with a big tan head of large bubbles that left a very strange, uneven lower foam line in the glass. Aroma is very strong. Belgian yeast, apple, dark malt and very sweet. Very carbonated and packs an alcohol punch. Hints of dark fruit begin to come out as it warms. For some reason it feels thin around the edges but is full bodied when trying to swallow. Starts sweet with fruity esters but finishes very dry and a little spicy. Pretty good flavor but the appearance, carbonation and body dropped it a few notches for me.

Pours with a deep reddish-brown body topped by a medium thick, tan head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a slight metallic note and a touch of hops. Medium to full bodied and smooth.

This Abbey quad pours a deep caramel brown color from a 750ml corked bottle. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is caramel malts, dark fruit, brown sugar and molasses. A medium to full bodied abbey quad. The malts are caramel and sweet with lots of dark fruits, plums and cherries. Lots of yeast and fruity esters. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.
