Rise of the Burghers is an herbed ale brewed with a mix of cereals and bittered with hops and horehound (also known as mountain hops, or berghopfen in German). The Name: Rise of the Burghers was inspired by the little-talked-about era of brewing dominated by German Burgher brewers between 800 and 1300 AD. This era of sea trade via the free towns of the Hanseatic Trading League brought about a revolution in brewing throughout northern Europe. Increased production scale, technological advancement, and access to a steady supply of materials from throughout the trade network created a new era of commercial brewing that would change both the ale and the trade for generations. Tasting Notes: A mix of herbs including hops lends the ale a distinctive aroma and bitterness. A medium body created with a mix of cereal grains balances and softens the ale. Serving Suggestions: Rise of the Burghers is designed to be served at cellar temperatures, 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour with or without the lees; a good way to distribute the lees is by pouring the first half of the bottle, gently swirling the bottle, and then finishing the pour.

Spring top bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a one finger head that stays for a bit. Minimal carbonation. Aroma is very spicy with strong hints of cloves. Taste is spicy with all I can describe as a blood like metallic hint. Slight sour hint to it that make it feel more Belgian. Lively on the tongue. Overall not half bad. Love to see what this small brewer can think of next.
