Sampled this at the 9th Annual Festival of Beer in Downtown San Diego.

This was something of a surprise, at an otherwise rather uneventful and unsuprising Festival Of Beer. My Bud Richard sampled this first, and I was impressed enough that I got a full sample of my own. The keg was soon after killed off, which speaks highly of a beer who's style isn't very well known among the "working class" beer-geeks that swarm this sort of beer fest.

Not a whole lot in the way of carbonation or head, but enough to make things interesting. What was more interesting though, was the light yet substantial Belgian "funkiness" that makes this style so interesting. Plenty of wheat undertones, which no doubt gave this beer the relatively light body -- no Fantome Saison Hiver, this one!

But what the Saison did have in common with it's more Continental cousin was an appreciable amount of alcohol, and a very nice overall drinkability. Perhaps not as complex as it could be, but still, an interesting find. Recommended.
