A traditional unfiltered Bavarian wheat beer with aromatic hints of banana and clove. This beer won the Bavarian Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver Colorado Staurday, September 27, 2003. It is made with up to 50% wheat malt instead of all malted barley which lends a lighter note. It is deep gold in color with a very low hop bitterness level and a dense head of white foam. It is traditionally enjoyed as the summer beer of choice in Bavaria and pairs well with appetizers, sandwiches and subs.

Sampled on 4/22/2009. This Hefeweizen pours a slightly hazy yellow gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head without much retention. The aroma is bubblegum and wheaty. A light to medium bodied Hefeweizen. The malts are wheaty and sweet with a touch of banana and clove. Hops are slightly floral. Kind of flat tasting and under-carbonated. Sort of between a wheat ale and a hefe. Not a very good example of either. Nothing really unpleasant tasting here, its just that there is not a lot of flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I'd drink another, just because I like the style. But overall, this one was pretty plain. The pour was lacking a big pillowy head. It poured with a normal two finger head that didn't lace much. The aroma was wheaty and spicey. The flavor followed suit, as the banana aspects were near absent (cloves more dominant). The wheat flavor was like a wet wheat flavor, as this one didn't have a dry mouthfeel to it at all. An ok beer, but nothing special.
