Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition using Munich malt and, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Hazy. Yellow/gold, honey color. Very small bright white head. Little retention and only a small bit of lacing. I was a little disappointed. A few piny hop notes in the nose. Earthy with some butter hints. A touch of grain. Similar to a wheat beer. Smells a bit yeasty. Notes of lemon citrus. The taste revealed a nice bit of bitterness. The yeasty tones come through strong. Some toast. Slight bit of lemon citrus. Thirst quenching. After a few minutes, the lemon becomes more prevalent and defines the taste. Somewhat sour. Medium/light mouthfeel. Crisp, refreshing. Nicely dry. Leaves plenty of flavor on the palate. Smooth. This is a solid Pilsner. Not a straight forwar Pilsner. Has a lot of wheat beer characteristics only without the heavy spiciness. A certain refresher for hot days in Summer. Easily drinkable. Got a little too sweet and sour for me after a bit, but still ok. Almost like I was sucking on a lemon drop.

Maybe I'm stuffy but no nose at all. Good looking pils, light yellow body but minimal head and lace. Mouth is a bit thin and undercarbonated. No nasty flavor BUT almost no flavor at all. Hint of apricot, no grass, no dour, finishes like a slightly sweet glass of water.

Color is a clear straw yellow, rather like a typical American lager, not impressive. Aroma is remarkably strong, overwhelmingly malty, with a whisper of citrus. Flavor is rich, malty, a touch of lemon or lime, not complex but very nice. Smooth, with a bit of a hoppy bite, it is a refreshing pilsener.

Pours a crystal clear amber with not much head. No carbonation at all. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste matches the aroma. Tad thicker than most pils. Dry chewy ending. Good beer on tap.

This is a beer you could drink for hours and never give it a thought--one of those rare beers that tastes great but doesn't require contemplation or distract you from whatever you are doing. Pleasant, light spicy bitterness plays nicely with the mild bready malt and leaves you refreshed.

Aromas the usual malts, and dry grassy hops with some hints of citrus. Body was a little bit darker than usual, thin head but it left a little bit of lace. Flavor had the normal pilsner attributes but the hops were a bit more prevelant and there was a very slight peach presence as well. Overall a nice enough brew.

A pilsner, quite simply... nothing outstanding nor hateful. True to type with hazy golden color settling to clear with a moderate white head and minimal lacing. Medium to heavy carbonation and rather light bodied. Clean finish.

It pours a solid golden with a fairly thick white head and copious lace. An aroma of barley malts, faint hops, and some citrus. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of barley malts, hops, lemon/citrus, some yeast, and light spice. Solid!

Well, I certainly expected more from such a highbrow brewer. Pours a thick nectar consistency. For a pilsner, it’s just not right. Hazy gold with a little foam around the edges. Looks yummy. Mouth feel is too thick and the taste is way too light. There are wheat and grain notes, but it’ s just too heavy. Finish is clean.

The more that I have a good quality pilz, the more I am starting to like this style. In the past, I thought of pilsner as a sissy-boy lighter beer....but some times I am in the mood for something on the lite side. Like tonight for instance, hadn't really eaten much all day and was having pizza at 6pm (Pilsners are good paired with pizza btw!) A little early for something heavy, so why not sample a North Coast Scrimshaw Pils! Light golden color, semi-clear appearance. Flavor is mostly barley, wheat, and caramel malts. Tasted a little banana or something in there too. Very little hops here. Drank it fast. Ready for something thicker and stronger now.
