This is the second release of Special Holiday Ale, which was first brewed in San Diego in 2008. Each brew is following the same recipe, including Michigan chestnuts, white sage from southern California and Norwegian juniper berries, but differences in brewing and aging practices produce different beers. Cheers to being different! Skål! THIS IS THE NOGNE RELEASE WITH A PAPER LABEL 2009 Vintage

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark mahogany coloured beer, huge beige creamy head with good retention. Lovely aroma of Christmas spices, anise and English liquorice. Extremely rich mouthfeel. Powerful malty sweetness in the flavour, with an abundancy of Christmas spices, anise and English liquorice. Hints of juniper berries and burnt caramel. Lots of liquorice in the long aftertaste.

Pours a deep tan .. light foam .. . katrell is an old skank .. . spice and dark fruit mostly .. fairly simple brew, has a clean finish .. . decent but i liked the stone version a tad better i think .. . You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who make people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea..

i'm not sure whta was different in the brewing/aging process compared to Stone's release from last year. this was very good, and very near the other beer. maybe a little more spice and a touch less balance, leaving it a notch below last years release. JP should funk it all up next year...that'll be interesting.

Poured this from a bottle, and the aroma was at first wiff was, well for lack of a better term, it was freaking weird. I let this warm up a bit and the dark sweet fruit flavor started popping. The Juniper and Caraway was came threw. This beer is becoming better and better with each taste. The malts seem toasted and the Juniper and Caraway was really lingering on the back of my tongue. Well this was a very unique and tasty beer.

Sampled on 1/2/2010. This ale pours a dark brown color from a 50cl bottle. Medium sized white foamy head with decent lacing. The aroma is juniper, caraway, dark fruit and sweet. A medium bodied spiced ale. The malts are dark fruit and sweet, nutty and spicy. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice carbonation. Hints of chocolate and banana. Nice holiday Ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
