A variation on our Five Fingers American Brown Ale, Mr. Brown Has Gone Coconuts offers the same full-flavoured, gorgeously coloured beer but with a novel twist. First, adding coconut provides a much more pronounced aroma, an area where brown ales are typically more restrained. Next, while many flavoured beers add sweetness by using fruits or even pumpkins, adding coconuts highlights the earthy, almost bready flavour of this beer.

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours no head whatsoever and has a slightly murky amber appearance. No lacing as well. Wow, the coconut is immediately noticeable in the aroma. The flavour is also pretty much coconuts, with a bit of herbal hops and grainy sweet malts. Has a slick and oily mouthfeel. Also a bit of a drying sensation. Unfortunately, the coconut is a bit too overpowering for my tastes, needs to be a bit more balanced.

Sampled at the Loon. Pours a hazy dark amber colour with a light-beige small head with not much lace. Wow... big coconut oily aromas. Same in the taste, but you get a bit of mild malts, sugars from the brown ale side. Oily mouthfeel. A little much perfume of the coconut to consume a full pint, but a real interesting idea to blend both. Luckily I had the half pint.
