STORY Yuzu is a strange fruit- citrusy and bold. Those three words: strange, citrus and bold are the perfect beginnings for a great beer. So, our brewers paired yuzu with the sourness of a Berlinerweiss to create this beerlicious Yuzu Berlinerweiss. Brewed with pale malt and wheat this Berlinerwiess was acidified with Lactobacillus for a light, dry mouthfeel and tart refreshment. Hazy and straw-colored, the yuzu fruit brings a tropical charm to a traditional beer. Smells and tastes like hay and sour citrusy fruit. Refreshing even at 8%, though I think it would have been cooler at a more traditional abv, like 4 or so. Dry and lightly funky and sweet. Cool one timer.

Sampled on 1/1/2014. This Berliner Weisse pours a medium to light orange yellow gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with a rocky finish and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity and sweet, a touch tart and a touch funky. A light to medium bodied Berliner Weisse. The malts are wheaty, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Nice lively carbonation. Citrusy flavors with a touch of kiwi. Slightly tart and perhaps a bit of funky. Light and refreshing. Very drinkable. Will this one get more tart with aging? Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp, clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly tart and sweet.

Pours a slightly hazy, golden body, about one finger of white head that quickly fades away. Leaves a light amount of lacing. A wheat driven beer with hints of grains, lemons, melon, straw, and crackers. Also some white wine like hints of grapes. Medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, sweet, tart, and fairly acidic. Finishes somewhat dry.

A bright golden colored beer with a moderate, three fingered fluffy textured, white head rising above. There's some hang time. Settles into a a thin ringlet. Light citrus softens the sourness of the genre. Effervescent, crisp, and refreshing.

Light gold pour with almost no head. Mild fruity aroma with a hint of funk. Flavor is yeasty with citrus and pear notes with a little tartness in the finish. Seems like the base of a good beer but it somehow falls a little flat in execution.

Comes out of the tap a hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Crisp, fruity aroma has yeasty and malty notes. Malty flavor has pear, apple and yeasty tones plus a sweet floral hint. Mouthfeel is firm and silky smooth with a subtle but lasting tingle. So, the apple/pear aroma and taste must be from the yuzu. Good fruit for a beer.

On tap @Suttree's. Lightly hazed straw yellow color, short white head, some lacing. Sweet orange and citrus, very slight chardonnay and funk in the initial nose and palate, dry, way less tart than what I was hoping for, more like a fruit wheat beer with brett. Just OK.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear straw gold with a fizzy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet lemons and tropical fruit with floral notes and a little tartness.
The flavor is sweet tropical fruit (yuzu?) with a little light sour tartness. It has a bit of an off burnt plastic note in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth prickly carbonation.
Overall, an interesting beer with lightly sour fruit.
