Sampled on 4/23/2012. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a somewhat cloudy, medium orange amber color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet and, yeasty with strong hints of pears. A medium to full bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy and herbal. Decent carbonation. Lots of sweet malts and some earthy hops, add to that some interesting pear flavor and add some more sweetness. It is MOST definitely a ramped up Fat Tire. Interesting taste, I think I might be sipping on this one all night, which is not a bad thing… Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet, yet there is some pear flavor to cut the sweetness at the finish.

This was a little underwhelming--really just an beefed up Fat Tire. Very similar to Fat Tire but with a bit more fruit and spiciness from the saison yeast but still primarily sweet and bready.

Mid orange clear body, the head is thin and fizzy it leaves some spotty lace. A nice full mouth, yet smooth. Caramel malts are the dominant feature here however a nice fruitiness along with the yeast which gives a touch of earth and funk. Overall a nice effort from New Belgium.

Comes out of the tap a dark honey golden with a fine-bubbled pale honey-golden head. Rich, fruity aroma has a hint of caramel. Lip-smacking flavor is malty and fruity and has caramel, honey and woody hints. Full-bodied texture is fizzy and sassy.

This was a phucking phenomenal brew. Totally loved it to pieces. Wish I could get this on tap right now because I would run to the nearest watering hold and put my mouth underneath the tap. Pours a reddish orange, not much carbonation but i was able to squeeze out a head. Sour pear, yeast, spice and floral flavors. Taste is perfect, silky smooth and delicioso!

22oz bottle. Pours a light amber with a smallish frothy off white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is musty sweet biscuity malts with a little spicy fruit.
The flavor is sweet biscuity malt with some slightly spicy fruit (banana and asian pear?). The alcohol is well hidden, but noticeable. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, I didn't really care for this. It's an amped up overly sweet Fat Tire with some fruit juice and a little more Belgian yeast (banana). So lots I don't really care for - sweetness, banana, and biscuit malt. -

amber in color, but heavy in body and flavor, with evident abv behind it while not being hot. pretty sweet smell and flavor, but a little funky from the saison yeast aswell. woody barnyard, sweet malt, dark fruit. pretty nice effort.

This is an interesting beer. I drank it right after drinking the Abbey Grand Cru, so it's impossible not to compare. Pours much lighter, with a copper color and more quickly fading head that fizzled more like a soda. The color is nice, though. The aroma has a similar banana, clove and yeast to it like the other, but adds a fruit dimension more like a white wine, which is obviously the Asian Pear juice that's added to this beer. I think it goes very well. The mouthfeel is more fizzy than usual for a Grand Cru and not as malty. The finish still has a sweetness to it. Definitely lighter flavors going on here. A pretty good beer, but I preferred the Grand Cru.
