STORY Coconut Curry Hefeweizen has been pouring down the history of American Home Brewing for many years, from the legendary Charlie Papazian to the 2010 National Homebrewer, Remi Bonnart. The latter helped New Belgium brew this hazy, straw-colored gem to life. The aroma is bold and big with coconut and curry tones and a hint of banana from the hefe yeast. With a vast spice list of cinnamon, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, kaffir lime, and cayenne pepper this beer carries a bit of heat but the alcohol soothes the finish. Coconut Curry Hefe will leave an inquisitive smile on the drinker’s mug. Grabbed a growler of this about a year or so ago...forgot to review. Remember the curry being pretty suttle, as well as the coconut. Worked well though, as I'm not a big Hef fan so this spiced it up a bit. Seemed pretty pricey for a bomber, so figured a growler/draft for roughly the same price was worth the try. Not really something I would go out the way for though.

Aromas of wheat, coconut, very faint curry and a sweet syrup. A hazy yellow with a tinge of orange body, the head recedes quickly leaving a thin film, random spotty lace. Flavor is coconut, and very light citrus the curry comes in and gives it an almost cola taste, lingering cayenne burn in the mouth and throat. Overall its interesting, unique, i like it but not as much as i thought i would.

Very hazy light gold pour with a frothy white head. Aroma and taste of coconut, banana and wheat. Curry finally becomes noticeable in the finish, providing just a touch of lingering heat. I wish the coconut was dialed back a bit and the curry more pronounced.

The other spices definitely take a back seat to the coconut and curry. More heat and this could be a wheat version of the stout Indra Kunindra. Absolutely loved the aftertaste. 8% doesn't show at all except as a bigger body than most wheats. Really nice change of direction. If you dig curry, you'll like this.

Pours a hazy honey-golden with an average white head. Coconut dominates the aroma, which has notes of malt and fruit. Coconut and curry definitely appear in the flavor, complementing - sort of - the malty and pear notes and hint of hops. Spiky, lively texture leaves a finish with a curry note that persists but does not burn. OK, not the best flavors to go into a beer, but a brave effort.

The last of my three New Belgium beers of my evening; this one is the only one worthy: Cloudy golden orange pour with a very tight head and nice droopy lacing. Perfect coconut milk curry nose, spot on, a touch of spices, some underlying hefe but the curry and coconut overwhelms everything else and in a very good way. This thing got more flavorful as it warmed just a bit, leaving me wanting some of my favorite Vietnamese restaurant's Spicy Curry Chicken on Vermicelli... would be a perfect pairing from Saigon #1 Noodle House... "Oh, you rike it shpishy Big Boy!"

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy dark golden yellow with a medium fizzy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is lots of perfumey curry spices with some wheat and a little fruit.
The flavor is a little sweet fruit with a lot of curry spices. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, interesting curry beer but very one-dimensional and over the top with the spice. I didn't really get any coconut.
