All it took was a six-week sabbatical in Southeast Asia and one lucky guess for us all to enjoy Billy’s Beer. The newest winner of our co-worker taste-off, cellarman Billy Bletcher, brewed a spicy tart of a beer for summertime sipping. Full of pale malt, Amarillo and Centennial hops, kiwi fruit and Thai ginger, this beer pours a hazy straw with pillows of bright, white foam. Lots of bold tropical citrus on the nose, and a flavor full of puckering fruit, all tied together with an American Hefeweizen yeast for a very dry and very strong puncher of a beer.

Sampled on tap at New Belgium Brewery on 10/3/12. This fruit beer pours a slightly hazy light gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, kiwi fruit and ginger. A medium bodied fruit beer. The malts are fruity and sweet, with some tartness. The hops are herbal. Lots of kiwi fruit flavors, its sweet yet kind of tart. A touch of the ginger at the finish. Interesting beer, I can’t recall ever having a kiwi fruit beer. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly tart.
